Decked to the nines

Achieve your dream garden with a visit to Woodstock Hardwood Flooring.

The first month of spring is here and with it comes the promise of lighter evenings, warmer days and time spent enjoying the fresh Cornish air. Of course, you don’t have to venture onto the windy cliffs in order to make the most of a beautiful day. With a well-crafted deck in your garden, you can watch the hours of the day float serenely past as you relax and unwind in your personal garden paradise.

Modern decking often consists of various timbers and composite materials. As Cornwall’s hardwood specialist, Woodstock deals primarily in hardwood decking, though composite products containing no wood at all are becoming increasingly popular.

While the team at Woodstock are known for high-end joinery and furniture crafting using regular timber, they have decided to go with something a little different for the decking. Opting for dense, tropical, oily timbers with exotic names such as Yellow Balau, Massaranduba and Ipe, they ensure the decking is extremely durable and ideally suited for an outdoor environment.

Most hardwood decking is available in three profiles: reeded with small ridges to aid drainage in wet weather, grooved or castellated with wide ridges, or simply smooth with hidden fastenings, eliminating unsightly screws and making for an immaculate finish.

For a company whose main focus has always been timber, it came as a mild surprise that Woodstock decided to stock composite decking. But when asked a very simple answer was given: the quality and finish impressed the team so much that they just couldn’t resist! The materials used for these are moulded from oak floorboards and are available in a number of colour schemes from lined oak to charred black. They can even be installed to create the illusion that your decking flows seamlessly from your interior and out into your garden.

Of course, one of the main advantages of using composite materials is the lack of maintenance required to keep them looking new. All you need is a little scrub here and there with some soapy water and you will have a perfectly kept deck. Or, if you want to go the extra mile with your deck then you can pick up all of your oils and maintenance products from Woodstock, which will help to keep it in tip-top shape so that every day spent outside on your decking is a memorable one.
