Cornwall Living 2018

Get the travel bug

With more than 50 years in the industry, Newell’s TRAVEL promises to give you the travel bug.

Award-winning travel agent Newell’s Travel continuously strives to inspire those in Cornwall who love to explore the world. Being independent, the Newell’s team can book with any tour company to any destination in the world and their relationships with the UK’s top tour operators have grown impressively since the business’ humble beginnings in 1962.

The agency began its life when Mr Warren Newell opened a small office in Falmouth. When Mr Newell Senior sadly passed away, his son, Simon took up the mantle. When Simon retired in 1989, present owner, Roger Hawke, quickly purchased the two-branch business – a second office having already opened in Redruth – before opening a third in Truro. In 1990, following their marriage, Mr Hawke’s wife, Helen also became a Partner of the company and remains so to this day.

Now, Newell’s Travel Limited has 11 retail branches across Cornwall, extending into Devon, as well as a Business Travel Department and a Groups Travel Department in Bristol. Such growth and success is down to hardworking, professional staff and innovative thinking; it’s really no wonder that the nation’s leading tour operators continuously vote for them in the national award ceremonies!

For the past 29 years, The Newell’s Travel show has attracted the country’s leading tour operators and 2017 will be no exception. This years’ event, taking place on Sunday 12th March between 10.30am and 3.30pm, will see Truro welcome 46 national companies, each ready and waiting to talk you through all-things travel, whether at home or abroad. In fact, the Newell’s Travel Show is the largest of its kind in the south west and, having outgrown the Hall for Cornwall, is now set to move into a super-sized marquee on Lemon Quay Piazza in order to accommodate even more suppliers!

The day will be packed with cinema presentations from nine diverse companies hoping to inspire your inner explorer, as well as on the day show offers, face-to-face travel advice and a chance – for those attending the show – to enter the Star Prize draw from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, for a cruise worth over £3000!

Another one to look out for is this year’s Cruise Show. While it’s not taking place until October, it’s definitely one to pencil in your diary early, especially after the resounding success of last year’s show,
which showcased many of the world’s leading cruise companies at the Atlantic Hotel, Newquay. Indeed, this year’s Cruise Show is set to be even bigger! Newell’s Managing Director, Roger Hawke tells us: “Already, cruise lines are telling us to put them down for this year and who are we to disappoint?”
