Cornwall Living 2017

Great outdoors

The Mid Cornwall Landscaping professionals create incredible outdoor spaces that will be enjoyed for years to come.

Those of you who regularly pick up a copy of Cornwall Living may remember Mid Cornwall Landscaping, the landscaping specialists who provide fresh and contemporary spaces for families, residents and patients to enjoy. At the core of this impressive company’s ethos is a desire to manage projects that are as aesthetically pleasing as they are effective in bettering the lives of those facing ill health and adversity. By employing a blend of home-style gardening and commercial landscaping, the team, to date, has managed some of the most undeniably impressive and functional spaces, improving the lives of those most in need across Cornwall.

During more than 30 years of business, Mid Cornwall has provided full design and build services for a number of healthcare projects, such as the outdoor space at Cornwall Care’s Mountford residence which we covered last year. After being approached by one of the home’s nurses with initial ideas to create the space, the Mid Cornwall team was able to draw up the designs and tailor the area to those living there. The final result was a sensory garden, tearoom and greenhouse in which residents can now grow their own things. Manager Director at Mid Cornwall, Jacques Egbers explains: “We went for a fairly contemporary look, with lots of grass and routes for easy access for all residents at Mountford. The transformation took place over a six-week period and it was a pleasure for all of those involved.

“Indeed, it was an honour for myself and Chris Plant to be invited back for the garden’s opening. The positive feedback was just astounding and to see how much the residents value the space is incredibly satisfying.”

Another fine example of the team’s invaluable work can be found at The Cove, at Treliske Hospital. This purpose-built, Macmillan Cancer Support Centre is dedicated to offering a breadth of information and support to anyone living with or affected by cancer. For this one, the team provided a basic landscaping package to help bring the idea to life, providing the necessary expertise to seed, turf and help add the finishing touches to
the project. It’s clear then, that the team at Mid Cornwall Landscaping are no strangers to charitable work, so it’ll come as no surprise that to celebrate its 30th anniversary, the team donated 30 trees, planting them at schools, care homes and community based projects across Cornwall in order to promote sustainability. Happy birthday!

More recently, the team were involved in rejuvenating the recreational area for Bodmin Hospital’s acute psychiatric admissions unit. The project, which the team won after being invited to tender for, involved transforming a bland outdoor space that offered no real functionality into an area that would greatly benefit those attending Fletcher ward.

After coming up with the initial designs as well as the plans for realising them, the team set to work on their vision of combining recreation with relaxation. Upon completion (a week ahead of schedule!), the once bland outdoor area had been reborn as a bustling hub of communal outdoor activity. Now, a rubber crumb playing surface with table tennis and an activities court provide an outlet for the more energetic residents, while well-thought-out seating and footpaths allow plenty of room for those who just want to get outside for a breath of air. What’s more, the calming-colour scheme in which the area was finished now plays an active role in alleviating mental stress and illness, showing once more that, down to the last detail, the Mid Cornwall team are experts in their field.

So, if you know of a space that needs the magic touch of an ethical and professional landscaping team, why not get in touch? With Mid Cornwall Landscaping, your project is always in safe hands.
