This month, we experience some truly stunning west Cornwall stays, in St Ives, Lelant and Mount’s Bay.
Moonjar, St Ives
Nestled in a prime location overlooking Porthminster beach, with luxury in every room, Moonjar is the perfect holiday home.
Its reverse level layout works perfectly with its surroundings and inside, you’ll find indulgent accommodation for up to six guests, with three boutique double bedrooms boasting gorgeous, panoramic views. The whole interior oozes coastal style and, in fact, every effort has been made to maximise Moonjar’s location. Take a load off on the penthouse, gaze out through the full-width windows or sit out on the balcony and you’ll soon see what we mean!
Wander down the hill to the white sands of Porthminster and sample the culinary delights of the Beach Café. The heart of St Ives is only 15 minutes away, where you’ll find boutique shops, galleries, chic cafés and bars, as well as the harbour, bustling to the tune of life by the water.
From celebrations and family holidays to short, weekend escapes, Moonjar is a first class holiday home – the perfect base from which to explore all the delights of west Cornwall.
The Abbey, Lelant
Timeless and historic, The Abbey is a Grade II listed property set in the heart of Lelant, near St Ives. In fact, the exact date that The Abbey was built is unknown, but the first recorded date is 1581 and the likelihood is that it was built between 1300 and 1400AD!
Grand features enjoyed by this stunning property include the pillar in the sitting room, several granite-arched doorways, the spectacular spiral granite stairs and the remnants of grand mullion windows facing south, towards the sun. It combines history with an authentic rural atmosphere, particularly in the kitchen where the granite-arched range offers farmhouse-style cooking, perfect for those with a touch of foodie flare!
Outside, the large lawned garden lends itself beautifully to a spot of al fresco dining and, should the temperature drop, the comfortable, open-beamed ceiling sitting room has its own log burner, as well as cushy furnishings, making it ideal for a cosy night spent weathering the petulant storms of the Atlantic.
With many of its granite features believed to have been salvaged from old, local churches and an interior that beautifully bridges the contemporary with the historic, The Abbey makes for a wonderful, rural family retreat that’ll even accommodate the hound!
North Wing, Mount’s Bay
Set high above the sea and commanding incredible, panoramic views of Mount’s Bay, this apartment in Acton Castle presents an amazing coastal break for four or a cosy bolthole for two. Indeed, the location is a definite case of ‘seeing is believing’ with stretching views that reach all the way to the iconic St Michael’s Mount. The coast path is immediately accessible, with Prussia cove around the headland to the left and Perranuthanoe to the right, making it perfect for avid walkers such as myself.
Originally built in 1775 as a country house, Acton Castle is now a set of apartments, which provide an impressive yet welcoming place to stay. Sitting in the formal communal garden with a drink in hand, looking out across the beautiful expanse of ocean in front of you enables a true moment of peace, with work and the troubles of life feeling like a world away. Indoors, the open-plan living area, which boasts a lovely relaxed style, offers a comfortable place to unwind after a day of exploring the stunning surrounding coastline. Lovely wooden bookcases break up the living area, which means you can either enjoy a chat with loved ones while you cook or you can tuck yourself away in a corner with that book you never quite get around to reading!
Walking through to the fabulous double bedroom, you’re met with an understated design that embodies the ambience of life by the sea, with neutral tones that help aid a restful night’s sleep. While this is a fantastic spot for a romantic getaway the twin bedroom means the apartment is ready and waiting to provide anyone with an unforgettable family holiday.
