Best foot forward

Cornwall Gold takes a bold step by making donations from sales of its exclusive flip-flop necklaces to the RNLI.

With more than 300 of the country’s finest beaches and 250 miles of coastline on our doorstep, it’s no wonder that Cornwall attracts millions of visitors each year. From lifesaving to educating children on the importance of water safety, no one works harder to keep our beaches and coastline safe than the RNLI.

“Tolgus Mill is the last original tin mill left in existence and our regeneration project is all about preserving our unique Cornish heritage for future generations.”

So we were excited to hear about Cornwall Gold’s commendable collaboration in supporting this vital work – with its iconic flip-flop. It’s made from Cornish granite, sterling silver and tin, extracted and processed by the Cornwall Gold team in their very own tin streaming works, Tolgus Tin Mill, located on their site between Redruth and Portreath.

Steve Ackland, from Cornwall Gold, explains, “Tolgus Mill is the last original tin mill left in existence and our regeneration project is all about preserving our unique Cornish heritage for future generations. Tolgus Mill was established in 1865 and in those days very little thought was given to the environmental impact the mining industry had on our landscape and coastline.”

For every flip-flop sold this year, Cornwall Gold is donating directly to the RNLI, providing a source of much needed funds. “Things don’t get much more Cornish than our flip-flop”, continues Steve, “this is our little way of saying ‘thank you’ for the amazing job the RNLI does by putting something back into the local community.”

Flip-flops are available in both left and right foot versions exclusively from Cornwall Gold. Find out more about this exciting renovation project by taking a guided tour through Tolgus Mill. You’ll discover how mining waste is transformed into precious tin and beautiful jewellery by Cornwall’s leading jewellery experts. Tours run daily and cost just £4 per person. After your guided tour, we’d recommend visiting the on-site Cornish Pantry restaurant for a wide range of Cornish favourites, including the award-winning Cornish breakfast, brought to your table on a traditional tinner’s shovel!
