Way Back When – Falmouth

A look back at life on the coast in days gone by.

Pilchard fishing was the lifeblood industry for many Cornish coastal communities in the 1800s. Many of the trading ships in the background are schooners. The docks
were originally opened in 1861 and continue to play a crucial role in the economy of Falmouth.

Falmouth History Archive is open to the public every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 10am to 12pm. Visitors are welcome to drop in with enquiries, and to browse or order copies of historic images and documents.
