Inspiring independent businesses bringing, quality artisan produce back to the Fore.
Chic and independent, Essa Collection stocks an original selection of women’s clothing and accessories, all chosen for their quality and individuality by entrepreneur and fashionista, Vanessa Stevens.
Vanessa tells us how she travels the world to find the best pieces for her customers. She explains: “If we like it, we aren’t constrained to just clothes,” something that’s evident as you peruse the array of handpicked clothes, scarves, bags and jewellery adorning the shelves. Also on display is a range of silver from Vanessa’s brother Craig, whose wares can otherwise be found on Porthleven market on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday as well as other events. This year, Essa introduced a new range of linen pieces, created by the store’s very own tailor in Bali. “I’m pleased to be able to offer something that we’ve designed, but that’s been created by the expert hands of a tailor half a world away.” She continues: “Moving forward, we want to be able to offer more of these tailored items, and with trips to both Thailand and India booked next year, the prospects are very exciting!” The boutique is completely unique, offering a personalised service that’s always ready to go the extra mile. So why not pop in and discover your new, elegant and individual style?

The Twisted Currant Tearoom, a delightful spot on Fore Street to stop for a drink and bite to eat, is approaching its third anniversary. Run by Susan and Michael Plant, the teamroom is proving to be more popular with each passing year, building a wonderful reputation for providing high quality, homemade cakes, cream teas and meals.
We catch up with Susan to discover the key to success.
“We source our produce locally,” explains Susan, “even our Tregothnan tea, which is grown in Cornwall less than 20 miles away. We pride ourselves with offering a wide range of meals, soups, pastries and cakes to cater for all requirements and lifestyle choices, with gluten, dairy, nut and soya free options, plus vegan and vegetarian.”
With Christmas just around the corner, we’re pleased to learn that Twisted Currant will be serving a traditional Christmas menu from the beginning of December, with plenty of festive fare. So why not join Susan, Michael and the team for a seasonal treat this Christmas? The homemade mince pies are a real must!
