We catch up with Gary Parks of Parks Interiors who gives his top tips on interior trends for 2016.
White and shades of off-white are predicted to be the colour trend of the year in 2016 for your home interior projects, with many home furniture and paint companies featuring statement, achromatic palettes in their new collections. Parks Interiors in Truro share with us the essentials of creating a calm and soothing bedroom space using a soothing palette of off-whites combined with natural materials and layers of texture for added warmth. Based in the heart of Cornwall, Parks have everything you need to create the perfect blend of style and functionality in your home.
So much more than white…
Owner Gary Parks tells us: “Combining different shades of white can create a stunning and luxurious look for your new bedroom and other rooms in your home. The trick is balancing that with texture and warmth from natural materials, accent colours and lighting to give a welcoming ambiance rather than a cold, uninviting scene.”
“We are seeing the introduction of bold textures to white finishes for both bedroom and kitchen furniture”, explains Gary, “which adds subtle yet effective depth and warmth to the finished look. Beautiful natural wood grain and knots are being emphasised on popular painted finishes, which can be customised in an array of white, off-white and taupe shades. Using a combination of white tones, rather than white washing the whole room, enhances decorative details such as coving or alcoves and adds dimension.”
He also shares that combining whites with natural materials such as warm woods, chunky knitted furnishings,
wicker and exposed stone or wooden beams adds layers of comfort and texture for a relaxing, rustic charm. By contrast, high-gloss finishes are a great choice if you want a sleek, contemporary look, such as the gorgeous glide of a glossy white, sliding wardrobe to neatly store away crisply ironed shirts and all those essential shoes!
Another tip the Parks team recommend is adding a pop of colour with an accent to bring the white to life. For bedrooms, this could be a statement headboard, piece of furniture or soft furnishings, for example.
Designing your room
When revamping your home interiors, bedrooms often come second place to a sparkling new bathroom or kitchen. As we spend over a third of our lives in our bedrooms, Parks say they take great pride in making it into something special.
Gary comments: “Designing a new bedroom may seem daunting; complicated by unusual layouts or alcoves, then choosing the right colours and styles, storage and furniture that will work well together.
