A country house Christmas

Visit Trevince House this December and experience the historic beauty of its grand rooms and Victorian stables.

Dating back to the 13th century, Trevince sits proudly overlooking Gwenapp, located within the ‘richest square mile in the world’ – a term coined in the 19th century when the area was rich in copper – the importance of Trevince as part of the social history of copper mining has led to it being named a World Heritage Site.

We fill the rooms with unique Christmas gifts and our dining room becomes a pop-up café serving hot drinks, delicious cakes and light lunches!”

With its granite ashlar, pink killas stone and classical portico entrance, Trevince has a majestic beauty that belies its rich history and stately grandeur. It’s been in Richard Stone’s family since at least 1281, and had never been open to the public until it hosted its first event in 2016, ‘A Country House Christmas,’ and now for the third year running, Richard and his wife Trish will open their doors again so guests can peruse stalls filled with beautiful items and explore the grand rooms, taking place this year over the first two weekends in December, from 30th November until 9th December (10am until 4pm). Trish explains: “We fill the rooms with unique Christmas gifts and our dining room becomes a pop-up café serving hot drinks, delicious cakes and light lunches!”

Following the success of ‘A Country House Christmas,’ Richard and Trish have put together a bustling calendar of events for 2019. Experience the resonating sound of opera, with the trio ‘The Opera Singers’ singing in the Drawing Room in February, then in March witness the grand opening of the gardens to the public. Situated within 270 acres of farm and woodland, the grounds include a stable block, parkland and historic walled garden. In May, enjoy the two-day Garden Festival, which will include speakers, demonstrations and even a plant pharmacy where you can learn how to nurture your struggling plants back to health. Trish adds: “We also open our Victorian stables to showcase local artists, and we will be running a series of workshops from the Stable Yard including willow trellis making, lino printing and a spring felting workshop.”

Since opening to the public in 2016, ‘Team Trevince’ are working hard to build up an amazing calendar of events for you to enjoy the beauty and history of Trevince and continue to keep the estate thriving for future generations.
