Cornwall Living 2018

A riverside retreat

If you’re looking for some ‘time-out’ then a visit to the Budock Vean Spa will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

With all the stresses and strains of modern life we sometimes just need to chill-out for a while. Where better than somewhere that not only offers a stunning location, but excellent treatments, delicious food and wonderful facilities? That’s a lot of superlatives for one sentence but a visit to the Budock Vean Spa really does deserve them.

As we arrive and turn into the private drive, lined with mature trees, we make our way to the front of the hotel. An 18th century manor house is there to welcome us – this is when we wished we had booked a night’s stay as well, we’ll know for next time! We are greeted by a friendly receptionist who escorts us to the spa via the hotel’s lovely selection of lounges, which all look out across the landscaped gardens. We make a mental note to come back here for afternoon tea where we can curl up in one of the many deep armchairs.

The spa is at the far end of the hotel and has a reception area with treatment rooms surrounding it. From here you walk down to the swimming pool area where we found loungers to lounge on, an outdoor hot tub to soak in and a walk in shower to cleanse and invigorate – with a plentiful supply of sweet smelling body products to try. There is even an open fire that warms the soul during the winter months. After an hour or so of gentle swimming and soaking in the hot tub bubbles we were called for our treatments.

The back massage is amazing. Just the right pressure so that you can drift off and enjoy the moment, covered in warm towels with gentle music playing in the background. Could things get any better? Well, it seems they could. Our massages were followed by a delicious light lunch after which we decide to take a gentle stroll down through the hotel grounds to relax at the water’s edge. The hotel and spa is situated on the banks of the Helford river deep in Daphne Du Maurier country and as the sun dances on the
water we conclude it is the perfect end to a perfect day.
