Cornwall Living 2017

Kneehigh Theatre

Inventive, brave, anarchic, cheeky, funny, magical and daring theatre for the family!

From its home in Cornwall, Kneehigh has built a reputation for creating vigorous and popular theatre for audiences throughout the UK and beyond. In Cornwall, 1980, a village school teacher began to run theatre workshops in his spare time. In due course a mixture of people became involved, a farmer, the sign writer from Tesco, several students, a thrash guitarist from a local band, an electrician. No actors…nobody who had been trained. The workshops took place in the spirit of cheerful anarchy and casually slipped into performance, and finally the production of shows.

The company now finds itself celebrated as one of Britain’s most exciting touring theatre companies. They create vigorous, popular theatre for a broad spectrum of audiences, using a multi-talented group of performers, Director’s, designers, sculptors, engineers, musicians and writers.

The Asylum is their long-awaited, much dreamed about, jaw-dropping, spirit-lifting nomadic theatre space.

A place of fun, playfulness and sanctuary, The Asylum is a purpose built tent, a home and a place – as described by The Guardian as “a place predisposed to magic”.

For the last two years, The Asylum has taken up temporary home at Tywarnhayle Farm, Blackwater.

We are delighted to announce that, from July 21st – August 27th 2012, the Asylum will return to Cornwall for a third season.

The full programme is yet to be announced but will include our new touring show, Steptoe & Son, a Co-production with West Yorkshire Playhouse.  There will once again be a host of other shows, events and performances for all ages.

Tickets for those living in Cornwall go on sale at the beginning of April, then on general release from the beginning of May.
