From little acorns do great oaks grow!

Some time ago, self confessed surf enthusiast Andrew Dommett made the somewhat risky decision to set up business supplying building supplies from a dusty old barn on the misty outskirts of the Mining Town of St Just. With sand still firmly wedged between his toes he had only one goal in mind, (the future). In no time the business was up and running and Andy was soon expanding key areas to keep up with demand, Solo had begun to flourish where the competition clearly lacked. With a loyal local following of both public and trade customers gradually increasing, so did the necessity for a greater product range, more value and more customer friendly services such as a direct delivery service. The seeds were well and truly planted and Solo Building Supplies was set to grow in a climate that so few were surviving, slowly but surely the dusty old barn was running out of space and Andrew was left with no choice but to seek relocation for the ever growing Solo.

Years later, and now very well established in the new 35,000 square ft unit at Long Rock, Penzance, Solo has continually grown at pace, as required, and as customer and product demand has dictated. The builders merchants was now gathering even more momentum with word now spreading around new areas of the South West, new key staff members were recruited with specialist product or service knowledge and Solo now have a qualified expert team of 28 staff.

The latest addition to the Solo story was the introduction of Sales Manager Megan King and the creation of the on site Kitchen and Bathroom Showrooms. Not only was the showroom planning and layout a complete success, the stunning product range sourced by Megan are in some cases completely unique to Solo. The Solo showrooms now carry some renowned iconic brands such as Stosa, Quantum, AGA, Crosswater, NEFF and Pelipal to name but a few.

The Solo story doesn’t end there, now with over 15 years behind them and many more ahead, new expansion plans are already in discussion for the future and Solo believe they can work towards an even better overall service for the customers with everything being available at all times, whatever that may be.

As in Andrew’s own words “The road to success is always under construction”
