Cornwall Living 2016

Momad Fair Trade Company, Manaccan

It’s official, summer has arrived in Porthleven and the traders at the Harbour Market are enjoying the hustle and bustle as the first of the holidaymakers visit our picturesque harbourside village.

Momad is one of the regular stall holders on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer months. Find them on the harbour head with their colourful display of bags from Madagascar, leathers from Southern Europe and stylish hats at affordable prices.

Their reed and raffia bags and baskets are sustainably produced by small artisan enterprises using materials grown in the Madagascan hills around Antananarivo. They capture the vibrant colours and creativity of Africa and are great for the beach, shopping and storage.

Mo’s belts started out as a sideline but have proven popular with their customers who say it is very difficult to find proper leather belts these days. Maurice, the owner sources high quality cowhides and solid cast buckles to produce belts that will last for many years, and can be made to fit any size waist. This year he has introduced a range of handmade leather bags from his own designs. Note also, that he does offer a commission service is you are after something in particular and cannot find a quality item in the shops.

Momad is a small local business selling a wide range of items directly to the public by attending craft fairs, harbour markets and festivals.
