Dogs Love Cornwall Living2020/21 Autumn/Winter

5 of the best dog friendly experiences

1 Dog-friendly accommodation

On the south coast of Cornwall, perched above the glittering waters of Mevagissey, lies Heligan Caravan and Camping Park. Five of the park’s chalets are dog friendly, including Caerhays for the first time this year. Recently refurbished, Caerhays offers a deluxe bungalow option, sleeping up to six people in a spacious and tastefully decorated holiday home, so you can enjoy the beauty of the Heligan campsite from absolute comfort.

2 Dog-friendly camping or touring

Dogs are welcome on the campsite no matter which form of accommodation you prefer. Whether it’s under canvas or relaxing in a motorhome, at Heligan, the team knows that sleeping under the stars is that little bit better with your canine companion. And for autumn 2020, Heligan Campsite’s new state-of-the-art amenity block will be open, complete with dog showers, so you can wash your pup after a busy day spent adventuring.

3 Dog-friendly beaches nearby

Cornwall boasts a stunning array of over 300 beaches and coves, all ripe for exploring. Hop in the car and make the short journey to Hemmick beach, where dogs are allowed all year round. If you’re visiting outside of peak season, be sure to visit Porthpean or stroll down to the stunning Pentewan beach, right on the doorstep. Both beaches operate a seasonal dog ban so please check before you visit.

4 Dog-friendly walks

There are a whole host of walks to enjoy along the Roseland Heritage Coast thanks to the South West Coast Path, but one of our favourites has to be from Heligan to Mevagissey. Following the path of a pre-historic tin stream, the route passes through the Pentewan Valley and by a medieval settlement associated with the Lost Gardens of Heligan, before reaching the picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey.

5 Dog-friendly pubs

There are numerous dog-friendly pubs in Mevagissey, including the Harbour Tavern, The Fountain Inn, The Sharksfin and The Ship Inn. This means you can couple your explorations with a bite to eat in comfort, taking in the beautiful harbour views and relaxing a while, before heading back to the campsite
