Dogs Love Cornwall LivingAutumn/Winter 2019

5 of the best things to do with your dog at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary

With 42 acres of land to enjoy, including woodlands, there are lots of things to excite your canine companions within the sanctuary.

At the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, dogs are always welcome! The sanctuary crew merely ask that all vaccinations are up to date; otherwise they have free reign with just two areas restricted because of hygiene reasons – The Seal Hospital and the cafe (however there is sheltered outdoor seating). In all other areas dogs are allowed, provided they are well behaved and on leads.

Meet the seals!

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary is a charity that rescues and rehabilitates grey seal pups from around the Cornish coastline. Each season, the sanctuary rehabilitates over 70 seal pups that have been rescued for various reasons, from malnourishment to being separated from their mum. The sanctuary also provides a permanent home to animals that need special care from the team of marine animal experts. As the enclosures are glass fronted, dogs are able to get up close and personal with the resident animals – doggy guests love meeting the seals!

Have a walk in the woods

Tucked against the picturesque backdrop of the Helford river, the sanctuary is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The 42-acre site has fantastic woodland walks for you and your four legged friends to explore!

Stay hydrated

There are multiple dog water bowls around the site for your four-legged friends, as well as dog bins to dispose of any waste and free degradable doggy bags around the site for you to help yourself to during your visit.

Rock a Cornish Seal Sanctuary bandana from the gift shop

The gift shop isn’t just for humans! There’s also a fantastic selection of local homemade dog treats for sale as well as toys and Cornish Seal Sanctuary dog bandanas. Not to mention that there’s even doggy ice cream available in the café for your dog to enjoy whilst you treat yourself to a Roskillys ice cream!

Meet the team

The Sanctuary team love doggy guests; treats are available at the reception which the front of house team are always very happy to give away, and there’s even an annual Fun Dog Show that everyone’s welcome to join!
