A brand new you

Just a few ideas to help start 2019 the way you mean to go on!

Set yourself free from smoking with help from Renewu

We catch up with Jill about her family’s experience with the Renewu programme. “My husband smoked for 28 years. He first tried to stop when I was diagnosed with cancer at 29. I was overjoyed but six months later he was lighting up again. A series of failed attempts, nicotine replacements and vaping followed, accompanied by frustrations, guilt and shame; heightened by the birth of each of our three children.”

Jill continues: “After just five hours with Renewu the difference was remarkable! They helped him to dispel the so-called benefits he had thought he was getting from smoking and exposed the contradictory thoughts every smoker has, allowing him to genuinely want to stop. As he says, ‘removing the doubt and fear made it easy!’”

Start your fitness journey with Johnny Lawrence Personal Training

We all have those moments when a bit of over-indulgence can suddenly turn into a habit; we excuse our lack of exercise because it’s too cold and dark or maybe even because we don’t have the knowledge to make the most of a gym membership. If this sounds familiar, or even if you simply want to learn more about fitness so you can have a more varied regime, then personal training could be the answer. Often the excess of Christmas is the kick-start we need to make a change and so it couldn’t be a better time to start thinking about how to move forward.

Personal Trainer Johnny Lawrence tells us: “It’s important to shine a light on your life and find the holes where things might be going wrong, my philosophy is: Decide, Commit, Succeed – whether you work a demanding job, you’re holding onto some baby weight, or you simply want a better understanding of what works for you, the first step is to decide to make a change.” Johnny has recently opened his own studio gym and provides one-to-one training for his clients with a philosophy that revolves around understanding what works for you. “Don’t be too hard on yourself, take it one day at a time, commit and you will see results.” Having the freedom of his own gym space means that Johnny isn’t restricted by gym times, rules or membership fees, so he can focus on the most important aspect – helping you to succeed.

Get ahead of the gardening game this New Year

As we settle into the New Year, it’s a joy to plan for the gardening season ahead.  Bodmin Nursery suggests some projects you can start this January.

If the weather is poor, give your greenhouse and pots a good clean – nothing beats being ready to go when the weather starts to pick up! Winter prune any apples and pears – good for shaping and possibly the tree’s health. You can buy your seeds too, ready to commence sowing.  It’s also a perfect time to plan your summer-flowers such as lilies and dahlias.

If you love growing your own, look out for new-season seed potatoes, as well as onion sets, shallots and garlic. Fruit bushes such as raspberries, gooseberries and blackcurrants can also be planted now.

The knowledgeable and enthusiastic Bodmin Nursery team is always happy to help you and your garden, so why not pop in and make a start?
