Tucked away on Falmouth Marina, UpperDeck is one of this popular town’s best-kept foodie secrets.

Conveniently situated between Penryn and Falmouth, with ample customer parking, Falmouth’s UpperDeck is something of a destination retreat. On entering, you’re greeted by smiling faces, exquisite aromas drifting out from the kitchen, and a sprawling view of the marina.

During the week, the UpperDeck menu centres around a simple ethos: wholesome food with a succulent twist. The team tailors their foodie offering around the local suppliers that operate within just a few miles, from freshly caught fish from local boats and organic meat supplied by Trevarthens, to the salad grown at Falmouth’s Soul Farm.

Head Chef Sam Tomlinson’s passion for food started at a young age, but surprisingly his career began working in secondary school classrooms. For a couple of years, before pursuing his passion for food, Sam taught History and Law, but when the opportunity arose to join Emma – his partner, and manager at UpperDeck – he jumped at the chance! Drawing influence from his time cooking in Australia, as well as at a host of other Cornish restaurants, Sam’s uniquely playful way of cooking has long since become a firm favourite among returning locals and visitors alike.

But it’s not just Sam and the team’s foodie offering that have made UpperDeck such a firm favourite. The venue has become well known for entertainment, hosting a calendar of musical evenings that are always packed out. Of course, the Coronavirus pandemic has put paid to those for the time being, but Emma assures us: “As soon as we are allowed to run such nights again, we certainly will!”

Under Emma’s leadership, the UpperDeck team have gained a superb reputation, welcoming locals and weary travellers to stop and stay a while in the comforts that this hidden foodie haven has to offer. Every member of staff strives to offer the utmost attentiveness and care, ensuring that whether you’re stopping for a quick lunchtime bite or a delicious three-course evening meal, you’ll leave feeling happy and full, and more than likely wondering when you’ll next be able to visit!
