A higher level

Truro and Penwith College is celebrating another fantastic year of university level results!

The TEF-Gold rated university centre at Truro and Penwith College has seen excellent results from its higher education students, despite them having to overcome the challenges posed by the Covid-19 lockdown. The continual online delivery of all the college’s university level programmes enabled the students to complete their courses using online assessments. Students achieved strong results, 79% of degree top-up graduates achieving a first or a 2:1, and over 100 students graduating successfully at Foundation Degree level.

With the release of the 2020 National Student Survey results, once again, Truro and Penwith College has been ranked as one of the top five higher education providers in Cornwall and Devon for overall course satisfaction – for the third year in a row! Additionally, over 85% of higher education students are satisfied with the teaching, learning opportunities and academic support.

Rachel Young from St Merryn received a First Class Honours degree in BSc (Hons) Applied Computer Technologies. Delighted by her results, she tells us: “I’m over the moon. I’m definitely going to miss the college next year. I’ve made such good friends and the lecturers are really nice. You build such a family bond with everyone.”

Rachel is aiming for employment in the local I.T. industry and has already started to apply for roles within Cornwall, in front-end web development and software testing.

Julia Hussey from Truro achieved a 2:1 in BSc (Hons) Applied Sport and Health Science. “It’s been an epic journey,” she tells us. “I’m eternally grateful to my lecturers for continuing to push me. It’s given me the confidence to keep going. The course has fully prepared me for work in the public sector.” Julia hopes to continue her studies and enrol on a Master’s level qualification.

Offering a range of career-focussed university level courses from BA and BSc Honours degrees, to Foundation degrees, Higher National Diplomas and Higher National Certificates, Truro and Penwith College offers a higher education route for everyone. Specialist subjects include Archaeology, Applied Biology, Community Studies, Business, Law, Sports Rehabilitation, Childhood Education, Silversmithing and Jewellery, and many more.

If you’re thinking about higher education, it’s not too late to apply for university courses starting this September. To find out more about the available support and how to apply, simply visit the Truro and Penwith College website.
