A Cornish farm’s bold mission to redefine English still wine.

As a farm, Shillingham has been worked for more than four centuries, and its latest chapter remains firmly centred in that history. Under the stewardship of siblings Alex Ramsden, Harry Ramsden and Flora Ramsden, the farm has evolved into a vineyard, proving that diversification need not mean abandoning tradition. Here, farming continues; the crop has simply changed. Now, the siblings are opening their doors, sharing the magic of their corner of Cornwall through guided tours of
the vineyard.

The vineyard has quickly become known for one of the UK’s most distinctive Sauvignon Blancs. Still relatively uncommon in English viticulture, it has found an expressive home here, producing a wine that has attracted considerable praise. It is Shillingham’s flagship bottle and best seller, shaped by conditions that are unmistakably Cornish. Just three miles from the coast, the south-facing vineyard overlooks the River Lynher. Maritime air, shillet-rich soils and the shelter of the estuary create a distinctive microclimate, allowing the vines to flourish. With every grape grown on the estate and every stage of production managed by the Ramsden siblings, each bottle reflects the character of the land from which it comes.

Five years after planting, Shillingham now invites visitors to experience the vineyard through guided tours that weave through the vines and along the Lynher estuary, tasting their collection of wines along the way. It is a working-farm experience with a contemporary purpose: a new generation on a mission to share the best of what this corner of Cornwall has to offer, built on the same values of hard work and family that have carried the farm for generations.
