The centuries old gardens are one of Cornwall’s hidden horticultural jewels. They were created by famous Quaker family, the Foxes, who also created Trebah and Glendurgan gardens. The Foxes transported exotic plants and trees from the warm, temperate regions of the world to their Cornish gardens, where they flourished in our notoriously mild climate. There’s so much to see and explore, and it’s all nestled away from roads so your pup can run free amongst the foliage and splash through waves without the worry of traffic.
There’s also easy access to the South West Coast Path from the hotel, so you can continue your walk to the tranquil shores of the Helford river in the west and Falmouth to the east. The Helford river is undeniably beautiful; in summer it transforms into a verdant paradise, its clear, still waters fringed by oak trees, giving a tropical feel to the area. Not to mention that before you get to Maenporth (in the east) all the hidden coves and beaches are dog friendly, so you don’t have to worry about avoiding dog bans. If you want to include refreshments along the way, simply head to the Ferryboat Inn, which is located along the west side of the river and welcomes dogs with open arms.
It truly is a beautiful and incredibly dog-friendly location, and the hotel itself promotes a warm welcoming feel, further enhanced by the friendly staff. The rooms are spacious with an air of contemporary design, taking inspiration from coast and garden with crisp, clean cotton and country views over the gardens and glimpses of Falmouth Bay. So, if you want to enjoy the sub-tropical paradise of the Helford river with your furry friend in tow, make sure to visit the Meudon Hotel and broaden your Cornish horizons this year.
