A roaring success

Open once again after lockdown, The Red Lion combines country pub tradition with a welcoming atmosphere.

You’ll find The Red Lion in the hamlet of Blackwater, between Truro and the St Agnes Heritage Coast. The beautiful, spacious beer garden can be enjoyed in the summer months and on balmy autumn days and when the days get colder you can warm up next to a cosy fire. A new one-way system is in operation throughout the pub which along with social distancing rules and staff wearing masks, is making customers feel safe and comfortable.

Food is served every day and with such a delicious menu it’s hard to know what to choose, especially as it’s all homemade and locally sourced by Head Chef, George Spurrier and his talented kitchen team. But you’ll be in for a treat whatever you decide – George’s fish and chips are to die for, and customers flock for the weekly evening specials which include fragrant curry, proper pies, perfect pizzas and of course our favourite, succulent steak night!

Ham, eggs and chips and a ploughman’s also tick all the right boxes when it comes to pub favourites. If you have room, then a delicious homemade dessert is a sweet treat to end the meal, topped off with an Olfactory coffee, locally roasted in nearby Penryn.

You can’t beat Sunday lunch in a traditional pub setting and luckily The Red Lion offers just that. You can go all-out and opt for a mixed meat roast that would be the perfect way to refuel after a bracing cliff walk. And don’t worry, vegetarians and vegans are also catered for with a tasty nut roast served with vegan gravy. In between lunch and dinner service, sausage rolls and proper Cornish cream teas are served from the afternoon nibble menu.

Drinks come in all varieties from a selection of draught ales and ciders, to local gin and rum. The wine list is carefully selected and very reasonably priced and if you fancy popping in for a pint but find yourself a little peckish, then traditional bar snacks are available – nothing finer than a pint of Cornish Tribute and a pork scratching to end a day’s exploring! So go on…treat yourself to a traditional Cornish pub experience this autumn!

Food is served Monday to Friday 12pm to 3pm and 5pm to 9pm, and 12pm to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday. If you fancy a night off from cooking but would prefer to eat in your home, then a handy takeaway service is available. The Red Lion is also dog friendly.
