Dogs Love Cornwall Living

A second chance

Here in Cornwall, a dedicated team of staff, volunteers and supporters are helping vulnerable animals find their happy endings through the life-changing work of the National Animal Welfare Trust.

The dedicated team at National Animal Welfare Trust Cornwall (NAWT) based in Hayle, transforms the lives of hundreds of animals every year. Rescuing and rehoming more than 200 abandoned, unwanted and homeless pets annually, the centre provides a safe haven where animals can receive the care, rehabilitation and love they need before finding their forever homes.

The Cornwall centre continues the remarkable legacy of Molly Wyatt, whose name became synonymous with animal rescue across the county. Following her passing in 1996, the Trust proudly carried forward her work, ensuring that vulnerable animals in Cornwall continue to have somewhere to turn in times of need.

Every dog or cat arriving at the centre receives dedicated care from experienced staff and volunteers, from veterinary treatment to behavioural support, ensuring they are ready to begin a new chapter with loving owners. Those hoping to adopt can visit the animals currently waiting for homes online, while the centre’s social media pages regularly share updates and success stories.

Community support plays a vital role in keeping the centre running. Donations – both financial and practical – help cover the rising costs of food, shelter and veterinary care, particularly for animals arriving with complex medical needs. Volunteers are equally essential, with hundreds of people across the NAWT network giving their time to support animal care, fundraising, events and charity retail.

For those looking to get involved, there are plenty of ways to help – from volunteering or donating to organising fundraising events such as coastal walks, coffee mornings or sponsored dog walks. For animal lovers across Cornwall, supporting NAWT Cornwall is a simple but powerful way to help ensure that every animal has the cha nce to leave with a happy ending and a loving home.
