A shared vision
Post & Beam have been designing and raising timber frames across the region since 2014.
As well as an extensive portfolio of domestic new builds, extensions and remodelling projects, the team at Post & Beam have also completed numerous commercial and public buildings, including Rick Stein’s Cornish Arms and the new gallery at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens.
“By collaborating with likeminded trades who share an eye for design, detail and quality, we can offer a wide variety of options to potential clients”
Their most recent commercial build has seen the completion of a new reception and shop space at Polmanter Touring Park near St Ives, just three miles down the road from the workshops.
Polmanter has been a family run business for 50 years, and pride themselves on continually re-investing to develop the park using local companies.
Becki Osbourne, from Polmanter, tells us: “Post & Beam were a great fit alongside Symons Construction, who we’d worked with previously on our Indoor Soft Play development. The project has enabled us to bring the reception area up to the five-star standard of the rest of the site. Many of our returning guests have been speechless when they see the new reception space for the first time, and I think that the oak frame and the oak beam lighting feature over the reception desk are a huge part of that ‘wow’ factor, so we’re absolutely delighted with how the project has worked out.”
The new oak-framed build has improved the experience for guests by linking the shop and reception – enabling the park to open the shop for more days and hours throughout the camping season, as well as allowing for the development of two new luxury self-catered apartments in addition to the touring pitches. These will be open all year-round, each with room for four people.
Post & Beam work with other local companies throughout the region to provide the highest quality timber-framed buildings, teaming up with fellow St. Ives based firm, Symonds Construction, to complete Polmanter. Carpenter Oak co-founder, Tom Jubb tells us: “The adaptability and scope of using a timber frame at the heart of a build project allows for structures that are truly bespoke, depending on what the client needs and what the building will be used for.”
Tom continues: “We don’t supply ‘kit-frames’ or follow a pattern book. Each frame we handcraft in the workshops has been designed from scratch, in close collaboration with our clients. The end results are structures that are truly unique and deliver what the clients wanted from their initial brief, rather than making do with something that they then have to adapt their lives or business around.” Impressive!
June this year saw the grand opening of the new building at Polmanter Touring Park, with Derek Thomas MP and St Ives’ Mayor Suzanne Tanner in attendance, as well as three generations of the family behind the business and regular guests.
Post & Beam, Symonds Construction, Hortus Design and Landscaping and Koha Architects were also there to see the cutting of the ribbon and celebrate with local food and drink.
Tom’s business partner, Tim Simpson, says: “Working with local firms is crucial to our business. By collaborating with likeminded trades who share an eye for design, detail and quality, we can offer a wide variety of options to potential clients – from just the timber frame to a complete build. We’ve built up a really strong network of tradespeople who we want to work with and vice-versa, taking on interesting and challenging buildings that will stand the test of time.”
Operating across the region as part of Post & Beam, who have framing yards in Devon, Wiltshire and Scotland, covering the whole of the UK and beyond, if you’re looking to realise your dream home, why not bring the project to life with help from the team at Post & Beam?
