Cornwall LivingIssue #159

Across Continents One Bite at a Time

Set above the rolling waves of Mevagissey bay, Stingi’s is an infusion of cultures. Opening at the stunning Pentewan Sands, this brand-new restaurant is a feast for all the senses.

Where Cornish produce meets Asian flavours, Stingi’s is a place where friends reconnect over shared experiences. The journey begins at the cocktail bar, where expert mixologists craft inventive concoctions using spirits sourced from around the world. From Japanese whisky to vermouth produced at St Austell’s Knightor Winery, each drink is a vibrant prelude to the flavours that follow.

After a drink, guests take their seats in the restaurant, where immersive Asian décor meets a sizzling spectrum of flavours. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows frame views of waves breaking against the sand, while striking light sculptures spark the imagination. A glass-preserved jellyfish and two magnificent koi carp cast a warm glow over the space, setting the tone for an evening of bold, tantalising tastes.

From Malaysia to Tokyo, Thailand to Singapore, Stingi’s blends contemporary Asian culture with Cornish heart. Locally grown produce, meat from nearby farms, and fish caught just off the bay form the foundation of every dish. Sourcing the finest ingredients and drawing inspiration from travels abroad, the restaurant is a meeting of cultures and a celebration of places that have left a lasting impression.

Open Thursday to Saturday from noon, Stingi’s offers a first seating inspired by the Cantonese ‘Yum Cha’ brunch. Guests can relax as a selection of beautifully hand-crafted small plates pass by, choosing whatever takes their fancy while sipping on beer, crafty cocktails, Japanese whisky, or a traditional cup of tea.

In the evening, an à la carte menu showcases refined techniques and exceptional local produce. Each course can be paired with wines from Truro’s Old Chapel Cellars, while the sun sets over the sea, casting fiery amber hues across the plate.

This multi-sensory dining experience opens on Friday, 28th March. With just 54 seats per sitting, advance booking is essential.
