All aboard
We experience the delicious food that can be found on deck at The Nare Hotel.
Nestled in a secluded bay on the Roseland peninsula is The Nare Hotel, an oasis of peace and tranquillity. This magnificent hotel overlooks Carne beach, a long stretch of golden sand leading to the deep blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean – and has been Cornwall’s highest rated hotel for the last 25 years.
“I moved to Cornwall because of my love for seafood. In my experience Cornish seafood is the best in the country and working here means I am able to access an incredible variety straight from the ocean”
Here at Cornwall Living, we love good food and therefore highly recommend a visit to the hotel’s two AA rosette restaurant, The Quaterdeck. As the name suggests, the restaurant has a nautical theme, with classic yachting décor, teak panelling and deck-like flooring, which is further enhanced by floor to ceiling windows that bring the ocean to your table.
The restaurant is renowned for sourcing the most exclusive local and fresh ingredients from both land and sea, the Cornish-reared beef is some of the best around but it’s the seafood dishes that really steal the show. The Oyster Boat for example, features an array of locally caught oysters, crab, crevettes, smoked fish, scallops, and lobster garnished with new potatoes and arranged on a delightful wooden boat; a real show stopper, perfect for sharing.
Head chef Nick Lawrie tells us: “I moved to Cornwall because of my love for seafood. In my experience Cornish seafood is the best in the country and working here means I am able to access an incredible variety straight from the ocean.” Nick has recently launched The Quaterdeck’s summer menu with some delicious new dishes. His version of the dressed crab starter served with almonds and avocado has been a huge hit, as well as new main courses such as the loin of Cornish lamb with crispy shoulder, glazed sweet bread, aubergine and Portloe honeycomb. And to top it all off why not try the Amalfi Lemon Curd with meringue, local strawberries and a strawberry yuzu sorbet?
The Quaterdeck is open throughout the year for morning coffee, light lunches, afternoon cream tea and relaxed evening dining by candlelight. So, if your appetite has been piqued then make sure to visit The Nare Hotel for stunning seafood and incredible sea views.
