Animal magic

Travel the world in just one day at Newquay Zoo.

There’s no need to go anywhere else but Cornwall this summer, as you can visit the African savannah, explore the tropics of South America and discover the tranquillity of Asia’s oriental gardens all in one place. A trip to Newquay Zoo will transport you to locations all over the world, with animals from across the globe and immersive experiences, like spotting the sloths in the steamy Tropical House and encountering free-flying birds in the Gems of the Jungle.

There are hundreds of animals to meet, from firm favourites such as Humboldt penguins, ring-tailed lemurs and meerkats, to more unusual species, such as red pandas, Owston’s civets and Fijian iguanas. The zoo has also had an exciting breeding season, with the arrival of Visayan warty piglets – some of the rarest species of pig in the world – along with a beautiful fishing cat kitten, a baby squirrel monkey and many more.

Multiple talks and activities take place throughout the day, so that visitors can learn more about the habits and habitats of their favourite animals, and get to know the personalities that call Newquay Zoo home. Newquay Zoo even offers special animal experiences where visitors can get even closer to the action. Current options include venturing over to Lemur island to feed the inhabitants, getting to meet the tapirs and a Junior Keeper for a Day experience for children who want to get stuck in and help look after the animals. Additional fees apply.

With 13 acres of lush sub-tropical gardens to explore, along with multiple play areas to entertain kids big and small, there is plenty to do at Newquay Zoo, just make sure to leave plenty of time for lunch and a tasty snack or two! Café Lemur serves a range of hot and cold meals, including pizzas, burgers, mezze boxes, salads and sandwiches. Pasties, sandwiches and drinks are available at Tippy’s, while Meerkat Munchies is the place to head for a delicious selection of lollies and ice creams.
