Back on the Tracks

All aboard for a steaming good time at Bodmin Railway in 2025!

Bodmin Railway offers visitors the chance to step back in time and experience the golden age of steam travel. Whether devoted railway enthusiasts or families seeking a memorable day out, guests can enjoy a journey through Cornwall’s stunning countryside aboard a full-size heritage locomotive. The railway is dog-friendly, ensuring that four-legged companions can join in the adventure.

2025 is a landmark year for railway history, marking two centuries since the world’s first passenger train revolutionised travel in the UK. As part of the nationwide Railway 200 celebrations, Bodmin Railway provides the perfect setting to appreciate the enduring magic of steam.

Trains depart regularly from Bodmin General, with passengers able to choose between a single branch line or an all-line journey. At Boscarne Junction, visitors can take a break in the summer to enjoy a picnic on the green beside the Camel Trail. Onboard catering includes a selection of hot and cold snacks and freshly brewed local coffee. The first departure of the day even offers a bacon butty for those looking to start their journey with a hearty breakfast.

The railway’s Spring 2025 events promise something for everyone. Bubble Car Days will showcase classic railbuses, while the Spring Steam Gala will bring heritage locomotives together for a spectacular celebration of steam. Music lovers can enjoy Sea Shanty Evenings, where traditional Cornish songs will be performed in a lively and atmospheric setting. Those with a taste for drama can step aboard a Murder Mystery Train, where suspense unfolds along the rails. For a hands-on experience, the Driver Experience Days allow participants to take the controls of a steam locomotive under expert guidance. Meanwhile, China Clay Days will explore Cornwall’s rich industrial history and the role of rail in its development.

Families will find plenty to engage younger visitors, with an exhibition coach offering interactive displays and activities, as well as insights from the railway’s team of friendly volunteers. A gift shop provides a range of railway memorabilia and souvenirs, while the station café serves a variety of refreshments.

With family and group tickets available, a great experience whatever the weather, and a welcoming atmosphere for all, Bodmin Railway continues to provide an unforgettable day out.
