Battle of the Foamies

Local parents, Sophie and Cheyne Moore, have organised a summer Charity Surf Competition, at Harlyn Bay, to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the Harlyn Surf Life Saving Club.

The event, ‘The Battle of the Foamies’, is a surf competition open to people of all ages. Alongside the competition there will be live music, a barbecue, beach games and a beach clean. It will take place on Saturday 30th June and run throughout the day.

I wanted to come up with an idea that was fun and really evoked the spirit of our community.”

Sophie and Cheyne’s son, Sonny, was born with Cystic Fibrosis. Sonny and his parents have received direct support from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, a charity that invests more money into cystic fibrosis research than any other UK organisation.

Sophie says, ‘The help provided by the charity has been invaluable since Sonny was born and I really wanted to give something back. We have such a strong local community, I wanted to come up with an idea that was fun and really evoked the spirit of our community. Surfing and the ocean influences our family massively and a surf comp seemed like the perfect option!”

The Harlyn Surf Lifesaving Club are co-hosting the event. The club was formed in 1989 and trains Nippers, Juniors, Seniors and Sandhoppers in beach safety awareness and education. It provides lifesaving training for all ages and levels, is affiliated to Surf Life Saving GB and is run solely by local volunteers.
