Beautiful days

Where better to relax, rejuvenate and revive mind, body and soul than in one of Cornwall’s leading spas.

After 18 months of angst and uncertainty and to be frank, a whole heap of stress coming from one corner or another, I am ready for some relaxation… Whether you have a frantic family life, a busy job or are just looking for some me-time, I’ve been on the hunt to find the best Cornish spas in which to chill, feel those shoulders lower and let those cares simply ebb away. Spa days should be a necessity not a luxury!

The Spa at Una features four restful treatment rooms providing an extensive range of pampering and holistic treatments, a sun-lit 15-metre swimming pool, kid’s
pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room alongside the Life Fitness gym. It’s in a lovely, tranquil setting with a huge pool area, perfect for working up an appetite that is easily sated by booking in for lunch at the fantastic Una Kitchen.

This spa is also ideal if you have a mini-me who would also like a pamper. Children’s treatments include a Sparkle Package for little fingers or toes or a gentle facial suitable for young teenagers. If you’re like me and prefer your treatments to be a little more energising then the Elemis Hot Mineral Body Boost is a powerful treatment designed to stimulate every cell in the body, helping alleviate muscular pain and remove toxins. A combination of metabolic balancing and skin conditioning results in an energising feeling of wellness.

The wild, elemental setting combined with the use of Elemis products brings together nature and science for the ultimate escape.

The Natural Health Spa at Budock Vean Hotel is a friendly and relaxed spa tucked away in a beautiful country house hotel on the banks of the Helford river. The setting is truly wonderful and as you enter the spa you’ll feel like you’ve stepped away from the busy world outside. The stunning pool, with its vaulted ceiling and vast open fireplace that warms the space in winter, is perfect for a float before the outdoor hot tub invites a bubbly soak.

This is an easy place to wind down. Relax on a teak steamer lounger around the pool while being hypnotised by the flickering flames of the fire. And when you’ve indulged in a treatment, you can enjoy lunch or a drink on the terrace overlooking the subtropical gardens or cosy up on a sink-into armchair in the welcoming hotel lounge.

You’ll find Elemis used for facials and massage treatments, while Jessica nail products take beautiful care of hands and nails. I highly recommend the one- or two-hour Couture Touch; this all-embracing massage and facial treatment is the icing on the cake to a glorious spa session.

This spa here has recently been awarded Gold in the ‘Wellbeing and Spa Experience of the Year’ category at the Cornwall and South West Tourism Awards, so you know you’ll be in good hands. A relaxing sanctuary by the sea, you’ll receive a warm friendly welcome here – it is a place where time stands still, there is no rush nor tear. Adopting the unique Elemental Herbology concept guests enjoy an initial consultation with therapists before being matched with the most appropriate element from Fire, Earth, Metal, Wood or Water; a process that ensures your treatment, and products used, work in harmony with your body’s needs.

Gwel An Mor has also recently partnered with Made for Life Organics, whose products, produced here in Cornwall, are used in cancer touch therapy™. These specialist treatments bring a sense of wellness to anyone who would benefit from a sequence of gentle and slow massage movements, particularly those going through chemotherapy and radiotherapy but also for anyone with other chronic health conditions. The spa boasts a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym and if you’re in search of a top-to-toe ritual then the Atlantic Bliss signature treatment is the ultimate hydration experience, leaving your mind
still and your skin nourished.

Mullion Cove Hotel and Spa is quite possibly one of the most romantic cliff top spa hotels in the UK. With panoramic views of the horizon, the purpose-built spa brings the romance of the sea into every aspect of its design and spa experiences. From the granite, copper, bronze and tin used in its construction to the spa treatments offered, the deep blue’s healing properties will envelop you here. Whether staying with your loved one or travelling solo with friends, who wouldn’t want to watch the sun go down from the clifftop outdoor hot tub; this is the epitome of being romanced by the sea. An outdoor heated swimming pool and indoor hydrotherapy infinity pool tick the boxes for water babes, while a steam room, sauna and outdoor hot tub envelop the body in warmth for the soul. Made for Life Organics and VOYA products are used to achieve total relaxation with the Mullion Ocean Essence signature spa treatment; designed to release, realign and re-energise, stresses and strains are released with a stunning fusion of shiatsu-inspired pressures and techniques.

Or melt tired, aching muscles whilst being warmed by a Jade Wave Stone massage. This is sure to soothe the soul as the Lizard peninsula’s balancing serpentine hot stones are placed along key points of the body. Whichever treatment you choose, time spent here is simply divine.

Cowshed products are formulated with wild-crafted plant extracts and essential oils, and are named in ‘moods’ for the benefits their ingredients provide and how they make you feel. Whether you want to unwind before dinner, celebrate in style with friends or treat someone you love to a treatment or spa day, there’s something for everyone at the Headland Hotel’s newly designed AquaClub and award-winning spa. Situated below the hotel’s first floor reception, you’ll discover an attractive thermal space with a heated pool, hot tub, spacious Swedish sauna, Cornish salt steam room, aromatherapy showers and a room in which to relax with comfortable sofas.

The whole place is nothing short of gorgeous and so completely relaxing; you can spend a peaceful day overlooking the Atlantic ocean, get muddy in the lovely Rhassoul, or experience a Moroccan steam chamber. The excellent facilities are matched by well-trained therapists, and they use some wonderful products too, including Elemis and OPI. Signature treatments begin with a full mind, body and soul consultation in order to fully understand your treatment needs. Ritual treatments include the use of a WaveStone; hand-carved from white jade the stone feels soothing on the skin and can be used warm or cool, helping to relax and ease tense muscles.
