Best seats in the house
Enjoy the West End’s finest theatre performed live in the exclusive setting of Hidden Cinema at the St Mawes Hotel.
For lovers of the arts, nothing beats the thrill of watching world-class live theatre, ballet or opera in and around London’s West End. But what if you could enjoy the very same performances from the Royal Opera and National Theatre, live-streamed into one of Cornwall’s most fashionable locations? Enter the Hidden Cinema at the St Mawes Hotel.
“We were genuinely amazed how none of the magic and ambience of the live performance is lost through the screen…”
Keen to experience the spectacle first hand, last year we were treated to a rousing live screening of Mozart’s classic opera, The Magic Flute, at the Hidden Cinema. We were genuinely amazed how none of the magic and ambience of the live performance is lost through the screen; even nearly 300 miles from the stage, you feel every emotion, absorb every last nuance from the performance as you sink into the luxurious reclining leather seats. If anything, the intimate setting of 25-seat theatre only adds to the drama, and with a 160-inch screen, state-of- the-art HD projector and 3D sound system, you are truly immersed in the action.
This year, the Live Arts programme returns bigger than ever, featuring some of the world’s most respected theatre shows from internationally acclaimed performers, directors and producers. Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Shakespeare’s Macbeth are but two of the masterpieces you can expect during the St Mawes Hotel’s Live Arts season.
To really make the most of the experience, why not book yourselves in to one of the beautifully styled boutique rooms for the evening? Savour an early supper in the restaurant showcasing the finest local seasonal ingredients, before heading downstairs to enjoy the show. In fact, a range of packages are available, from a dinner and performance for only £49.95 each – including main course, canapés during the interval and two glasses of wine – to a two-night stay package at sister hotel Idle Rocks, just a few steps down the road on St Mawes’ harbour.
As well as theatre, the Hidden Theatre regularly hosts fi lm screenings, from big Hollywood blockbusters to small independent gems. Why not give it a try? Surely this has got to be one of the coolest cinema locations you’re going to find in Cornwall.
