We catch up with Megan Dack of design company Interiora, who shows us how to transform your bathroom into a stunning space.

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the home, but how do you make it functional without compromising on style? Megan Dack, Director and Interior Designer at Interiora, explains exactly how with a recent brief from a client, who wanted to transform a plain bathroom with no storage into a functional family room with plenty of style.

“The addition of a wall-hung pan, for example, helps to make the room appear bigger”

“We started the design with a chic grey palette,” says Megan. “However, in order to lift it, we introduced these beautiful patterned tiles, which are very striking.” The large wall tiles, whilst being extremely on-trend, also have the benefit of being easier to keep clean.

“The space was limited, but I knew we needed to create storage whilst covering up the boxing for the pipes. So, we used a run of slimline units and a worktop that runs all the way around for extra shelf storage.” For peace of mind, Megan chose Corian for the worktops, an extremely versatile and durable contemporary composite material that is both stylish and long lasting.

Several canny solutions were employed in order to maximise functionality and make the best use of space. The addition of a wall-hung pan, for example, helps to make the room appear bigger. Another neat trick was the folding bath screen to make it easier for bathing children.

A splash of colour was added to the room by painting the walls in a light blue. Finally, finishing touches were added in the form of a black rimmed mirror and an anthracite towel rail, to complement the patterned tile.

So, through some clever design tricks and careful choice of materials, Megan managed to create a small room with a big impact, proving that even small bathrooms can be beautiful and practical. But we’ll leave the last word down to the client, who tells us: “I’m very pleased with my new functional bathroom. I just love it!”
