Care through consistency
A personalised approach transforming home care delivery across Cornwall’s communities.
Heart of the South Care Agency operates from Truro with a straightforward mission: delivering consistent, person-centred care that enables clients to maintain independence in their own homes. Founded in 2005, the organisation has spent nearly two decades developing an approach that prioritises stability and relationship-building over conventional care models.
The agency’s philosophy centres on continuity of care teams rather than rotating staff. This strategy ensures clients work with familiar faces who understand their specific needs, preferences and routines. Such consistency proves particularly valuable for individuals managing complex conditions, including dementia, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and mental health challenges. The model extends from six-hour daily support through to comprehensive twenty-four-hour care packages.
Heart of the South’s recruitment and training processes reflect their commitment to quality. Annual DBS checks, regular staff observations conducted by team leaders and one-to-one supervisions with HR managers maintain professional standards.
Recognition of this approach has come from multiple sources. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) rates the service as ‘Good’, whilst industry peers have acknowledged the longevity and well-being outcomes achieved by clients. This year brought particular pride when Steve Dowley received the Support Worker of the Year 2024 award in the Proud to Care awards, with several team members, including the Registered Manager, receiving additional nominations.
Client feedback reinforces the agency’s effectiveness. Mandy H, whose son receives support, notes: “Our son enjoys his time. He always seems happy going out and seems a happy lad on his return. All suggestions have been taken on board and dealt with positively.”
The agency’s scope encompasses elder care, physical disabilities, life-changing injuries, and rehabilitation support alongside their mental health and learning disability services. Each care plan undergoes regular review to ensure it remains relevant to changing needs
and circumstances.
Heart of the South demonstrates that effective care emerges from understanding individual requirements and building trusted relationships. Their model challenges industry norms by proving that investment in staff training and client relationships produces measurable improvements in quality of life and independence for those they support.
And what’s more they’re always on the lookout for experienced support workers to join their happy team. Why not give them a call?
