Christmas card competition

This year, Rock and Port Isaac based self-catering holiday letting agency John Bray Cornish Holidays invited local schools to enter a competition to design their Christmas card.

After receiving hundreds of entries, the winner was Zellie Dudley of St Minver Primary School for her scene depicting Santa enjoying a Cornish pasty at Polzeath, overlooking Pentire Point.

In exchange for taking on the challenge, all schools involved are being given £100 worth of book tokens to expand their libraries, whilst Zellie is being awarded a £30 gift voucher to buy a prize of her choosing.

The fiercely contested competition was judged by local artist Katie Childs, owner of Cliffside Gallery in Port Isaac, who said “All of the entries were of a very high standard with everyone really thinking about detail, colour and using their imaginations while taking time to really produce a masterpiece. They were such a joy to see and it was difficult to choose one overall winner as they would all make excellent card designs. The winning design was chosen as it really shouted Cornish Christmas. Well done to everyone who entered, they should all be very proud of themselves and their designs.”

Jess Holman, Operations Manager at John Bray Cornish Holidays says “We are so excited to have run this competition, giving local children the chance to design something beautiful in time for the festive season. We are sure everyone that took part enjoyed getting creative – we have loved seeing the fantastic entries coming into our offices, and we hope the book tokens we have donated to the schools that kindly took part will give a little boost for extra reading resources.  Thanks must go to everyone involved, including the children, teachers, parents… and of course our superb judge Katie Childs!”
