Christmas in Nansledan

If you are looking for that special gift this Christmas, then Nansledan on the edge of Newquay has a growing collection of independent traders.

Offering everything from luxury handmade chocolates and beautiful homewares, to lifestyle goods and vintage and tailored clothing, interspersed with great places to eat and drink, Nansledan is a must-visit this festive season. If you can’t get there yourself, then you can still support many of these local businesses by buying gifts or vouchers online.

Nansledan is the Duchy of Cornwall’s award-winning development. Just two miles from Newquay town centre, local shops and cafés punctuate quintessentially Cornish streets within a series of delightful walkable neighbourhoods. Christmas is a very special time in Nansledan and this year is no different, with various events being planned by the Nansledan Community Association. Many traders will be offering late-night shopping on Thursdays or Fridays every week in the run-up to Christmas; it’s best to check their social media feeds or websites for the latest information, including any festive specials and offers in the coming weeks.

For instance, Cornish interior, homeware, kids’ clothing and toy store Teylu Trading will have 10% off during all late-night shopping nights for in-store purchases, and will be launching a ‘12 Offers of Christmas’ on Instagram. The business has gift vouchers of any value and ‘His and Hers’ gift collections. Teylu has also just launched its own branded range including candles and diffusers, and has an online shop at teylutrading.com

Just around the corner, Marcel Rodrigues Interiors and bespoke clothing and milliners, will be open late every Friday until 8pm until Christmas, serving drinks and nibbles. Gift vouchers are available and on late night Fridays there is 10% off purchases over £20. See marcelrodrigues.co.uk or find them on Facebook. Meanwhile independent fashion boutique &KIN is offering late night shopping on alternate Thursdays and Fridays in the run up to Christmas. There is an online store with free shipping on orders over £80 and 10% off by signing up to the &KIN newsletter. Gift cards are available online and in store; see andkin.co.uk or follow @andkinshop on Instagram.

Vintage clothing store Love of Lemons is also doing late night shopping with bubbles and celebration chocolates in store, and has an online shop as well. Keep an eye on @loveoflemons_ on Instagram for the latest. If it’s hair and beauty treatments you are after for yourself or a loved one, then Blush Hair and Beauty has vouchers for all treatments and a great range of gifts in the salon including various hair, skin care and lash kits. The salon has a pedicure offer running up until Christmas with certain therapists and discounted prices in both salons with its trainees. Call 01637 859533 for more details.

If you fancy a Christmas catch-up with friends then Ladyvale Bakery has launched Afternoon Teas, including prosecco and boozy hot chocolate options as we get nearer to Christmas. Gift vouchers are available, including for high tea, and they will be open late on Fridays on 2nd, 9th and 16th of December. Visit ladyvalebakery.co.uk

Shiva Café (shiva-nansledan.co.uk) is planning hot dogs on the barbecue, mulled wine and cider as part of the festivities, or pop in for excellent food, a cocktail or one of the best Sunday roasts in Cornwall to eat in or take away. The Little Cornish Pantry (thelittlecornishpantry.co.uk) has a range of festive treats on offer including gift hampers packed with locally-sourced Cornish produce, with delivery available nationwide.

For furry friends, Pooches Pet Care is planning some late night openings and has a range of Christmas gifts available. The shop does not offer online sales but does deliver locally and offers gift vouchers; call 07586 437062 for details. If it’s delicious luxury chocolates you are after then award-winning chocolatier Amanda Langley uses the finest ingredients to produce her mouth-watering Langleys Rocky Road range of products, all available online at langleysrockyroad.co.uk.

And finally, if you want your front door to be the envy of your neighbours then Matt and Aaron from florist and homeware store Home Nansledan are organising wreath making workshops with champagne and canapés. Booking is essential and you can find them on Facebook or just pop in for elegant homeware, furnishings, or floristry.

Ben Murphy, Estate Director at the Duchy of Cornwall, who is developing Nansledan, commented: “Anyone having a wander around Nansledan in the run-up to Christmas is guaranteed to find a great atmosphere, brilliant gift ideas and fantastic food and drink. The late-night shopping evenings are always a hit, so I hope as many people as possible will come out and support their local businesses at such a crucial time of year. And if you can’t get here in person, there’s always the option to support them online.”
