Cornwall LivingIssue #76

Where coast meets country

Pay a visit to Mog and Crusoe and discover the eclectic range of inspired Cornish art that has made this artist-led gallery flourish.

Mog and Crusoe has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and owners Mark and Jo always offer a warm and welcoming, honest approach, which comes with years of experience. The gallery embodies a coast and country theme, with a balance of traditional and more contemporary pieces. Much of the work you’ll find there is exclusive and all made by independent artists, with a mix of decorative and functional work on offer.

Mark and Jo are proud to exhibit original paintings, fine art limited-edition prints, ceramics, sculpture and jewellery, all of which is made in the south west. They first opened Mog and Crusoe almost five years ago and to this day, it continues to flourish and evolve.

The gallery is built upon the success of Jo’s extensive career as a multi-skilled established professional artist, her attention to detail and beautifully painted harmonious works of art. Jo creates light and uplifting, colourful and atmospheric originals, capturing glorious skies, vast stretches of moorland, seascapes, meadows, wildlife and whimsical narrative creations that inspire the inner child of anyone enjoying her work. Having earned a degree in Fine Art and Illustration, as well as an HCP in Art Therapy, Jo works on spruce ply, aluminium, canvas and a collection of handmade papers, using the finest pigments and mixing her own oils and acrylics, adding liquid precious metals.

Mark comes from a Design and Precision Engineering background, producing all of Jo’s fine art prints and cards. He also designs and updates the gallery website and offers a fine art printing service for other artists and designers.

If you’re out and about with the family and four-legged friend, why not pop in and see what Mark and Jo have to offer? The gallery is dog friendly and is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am until 4pm, or by appointment.
