Professionally designed throughout for this year, The Blue House is the perfect example of an Elite West retreat. Formally known as The Lighthouse, the property was designed by renowned architect Ian Hogarth, whose London home featured on Grand Designs. It is an effortlessly chic holiday home that has recently been transformed by interior designer Chloe Morris. We asked Chloe about her approach to re-designed The Blue House interiors: “I grew up on a farm in a very old house by the sea. I’ve lived in cottages and my whole family surf, and I think if you’ve lived that life, it is possible to inject that into your work. People love coming and feeling they’ve had a taste of real Cornwall. They love a sense of authenticity and I like to think that I can offer that. I want guests to leave their holiday thinking they really felt as if they were at home. When viewed like this, interior design becomes truly aspirational.”

Adopting this approach to The Blue House which sleeps eight guests, Chloe has created the perfect combination of cool Californian beach house fused with calm Cornish warmth, curating the space to highlight the architectural design whilst softening it to achieve the look and feel of a warm, modern and inspiring beach house. Every effort has been made to source locally with high quality soft furnishings throughout the property, including a sink-into Cornish sofa that was made to measure.

The incredible hand-crafted dining table is fused from oak and glass featuring flotsam and jetsam from Bude’s beaches and is surrounded by striking vintage retro Italian dining chairs. The walls are adorned with stunning artwork by renowned Cornish artists Nina Brook and Sue Reed, bringing inspiring elements of the coast to the interior. Bedroom comfort comes in the form of a bespoke mango king size bed in the master bedroom and a cosy twin room, both of which have been softened by warm wool rugs and Lollipop stripe throws. Colour is used throughout with turquoise and blues a nod to the incredible ocean views from the property, while a pop of orange reflects those incredible north coast sunsets that set the sky ablaze.

With outdoor living in mind, The Blue House boasts a secure wetsuit store and useful outdoor shower for rinsing off salty bodies and sand toes. Lawned patios and a pretty balcony are made for enjoying a morning coffee or sundowner as the day draws to an end. Bude centre is just a short stroll from the property for boutique browsing and delightful dining. If your holiday relaxation comes in the form of something more active, then there are golf links on the doorstep as is access to the South West Coast Path… and of course, Crooklets Beach is just a pebble’s throw away making The Blue House a unique, luxury Cornish retreat.
