Coastal escapes October 2019

Beautiful stays in Malpas, St Teath, and St Just.

Fal River Cottage, Malpas

After falling in love with the amazing river views, Lubi and Phil Dee decided to take the leap and purchase Fal River Cottage earlier this year. Since they acquired it, they’ve invested heavily in updating the property, including a brand new bathroom and kitchen, as well as the rear garden, which now boasts not one but two seating areas from which to soak up the spectacular Cornish surroundings.

The dog-friendly cottage sleeps three over two comfortable bedrooms. Downstairs, when you’re not out making the most of those incredible views, you’ll find everything you need to make the most of the perfect self-catering stay, including a modern kitchen, BT TV with sports package (perfect for rainy weekends!) and a cosy wood-burning stove, which is just the ticket when you’re snuggling up in the evening.

Of course, all of us have days when we’d prefer not to cook, so you’ll be pleased to know that the popular Heron Inn is just three doors down. Dog friendly and serving a great selection of St Austell ales, this is a handy place to stop and stay awhile and given just how close it is, you needn’t worry about a designated driver!

Cocks Cottage, St Teath

Located in the picturesque village of St Teath just minutes from the rugged north coast, Cocks Cottage is a peaceful countryside retreat. Sleeping four with one well-behaved pet welcome, it’s a great escape for families to enjoy some peace and tranquillity in beautiful Cornish countryside. Within walking distance of the property you’ll find the village pub, butchers, café and local shop, and the cottage also has the huge bonus of being only five miles from stunning sandy beaches and show-stopping coastal scenery. Port Isaac for example is only a short drive away; made famous by Doc Martin, it’s a beautiful village to stroll around and has some great restaurants. Head to the acclaimed Restaurant Nathan Outlaw or Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen to enjoy some of the freshest local fish around, and if you’re lucky you might even see some fishermen haul in their catch from the harbour.

For the more adventurous there are some fantastic coastal walks along the South West Coast Path and nearby Polzeath provides world-class surfing waters. Then after a busy day exploring, return to the comforting environment of the cottage with tranquil gardens to soak up the last of the sun and a cosy living room with a log burner for the cooler months. Cocks Cottage really is a brilliant base from which to enjoy your Cornish adventure.
