Mariner’s Cottage, Mousehole

Mousehole’s narrow, winding streets lead down to what was once a bustling fishing port until the mid 16th century. Nestled on Cornwall’s south coast between Penzance and Land’s End, today you’ll find a pretty harbour edged with traditional, granite cottages. Perfectly in keeping with Mousehole’s fishing port heritage, Mariner’s Cottage is an original 17th century fisherman’s cottage with a charming, whitewashed facade and stunning views from every sea-facing window.

Recently refurbished and elegantly updated, this lovely home offers a bright and inviting space. Its combination of coast-inspired décor and authentic features, arranged over three floors, creates a chic and relaxing atmosphere throughout. The open-plan living area is decorated in calming, neutral colours with an inviting sofa and chairs arranged cosily around a wood-burning stove with a well-designed kitchen. There are two lovely bedrooms upstairs, both with large sash windows; perfect for taking in the sweeping ocean views.

Stepping out through the stable door to the front of the cottage you’ll find yourself in an enclosed water’s edge garden. Soak up those wonderful, far-reaching views over Mount’s Bay towards St Michael’s Mount and Lizard Point, while enjoying some al fresco dining or a glass of bubbly watching the sun set over the water.

Hillside, St Issey

Located in the village of St Issey on the Padstow road, this charming and detached period holiday home is the perfect base for a Cornish holiday, whether you intend to spend it at leisure or packing your days with coastal walks and inland adventures at Cornwall’s innumerable attractions. The accommodation itself is beautifully presented. Exposed pine flooring in the dining area and slate flooring in the kitchen, for instance, really add to the ‘country cottage’ feel, and the kitchen itself has everything you’re likely to need to cook up a storm with the region’s famed foodie produce. Why not pay a visit to Port Isaac or Padstow, where you can see the local fishermen coming back from sea and even buy the catch of the day?

The property sleeps a total of eight across four bedrooms. Up to two dogs are also welcome, meaning you can make the most of the north coast and the renowned ‘Seven Bays’ with your furry friend in tow. It lies just a short walk from the Ring O’Bells pub (also dog friendly), where you can grab a pint and sit for a quiet afternoon in the floral beer garden, or reserve a table and choose from a menu of quality home cooked pub classics.

A characterful cottage within easy reach of the best that north Cornwall has to offer, with generous and spacious accommodation in which to relax after a day’s exploring, consider Hillside for your next Cornish cottage stay.
