Discover Porthkerris

Learn a new skill and experience an underwater world with Porthkerris Divers.

You’ll find the beautiful Porthkerris Cove on the Lizard Peninsula, home to the family-run centre of Porthkerris Divers. Boasting a private beach and one of the best shore dives in the country, its warm, clear waters fed by the Gulf Stream make it a popular destination for divers worldwide. Experience numerous beautiful reefs and historic shipwrecks, as well as the famous Manacles Marine Conservation Zone which is just a ten-minute boat ride away. From the beach, seals, dolphins and whales can be spotted; venture under the sea
and you’ll be treated to the area’s prolific and mesmerising marine life – expect to see wrasse, angler fish, thornback rays, gobies, John Dory, jewel anemones, crabs, lobsters, octopus and the ethereal cuttlefish to name just a few.

You’ll be in safe hands learning to dive with Porthkerris Divers, their knowledgeable instructors have years of experience with many thousands of dives under their belts. Try-dives (for those aged ten and above) allow non divers to take the plunge from just £65, and include a two-hour ‘discover scuba course’ either in the pool or on a beautiful shore dive. For all ages, snorkelling equipment is available for hire for exploration just off the beach, meaning anyone can experience this magical underwater world.

The beach is dog friendly and a favourite with families; with a dive shop, compressor room, café, dive pool, boat launching and fishing area, Porthkerris dive centre really does have it all. PADI and SSI scuba dive courses are run from complete beginner to Dive Master. The dive centre also runs two hard boats, the Celtic Cat and the Celtic Kitten which take divers to explore the many shipwrecks and reefs in the area. For adults who fancy a true adventure in the hands of knowledgeable skippers, you can board the Celtic Cat and snorkel with friendly blue and basking sharks – an ocean experience not to be missed.

It’s hard to tear yourself away from such a wonderful location, but with a campsite, self-catering apartments and a large log cabin for groups, you don’t need to! The communal barbecue area, with its amazing sea views, provides a great social space for families and groups, while the café area is a stress-free solution for lunch. If you’re looking to explore the ocean, then Porthkerris Divers is the place to be.
