So what makes this delightful village such a popular choice for families and those travelling with dogs? Well, the most obvious reason is that Crantock is home to a beautiful, wide sandy beach which, protected by large sand dunes, boasts stunning golden sands and superb clean surf. Considered by many to be one of the best beaches in the area, Crantock is ideal for families and surfers wishing to escape the crowds of Newquay.

There is also another popular beach nearby – Porth Joke, or ‘Polly Joke’ beach as it’s known locally. Porth Joke can only be reached by foot, however on arrival you’ll discover that this glorious stretch of sand, situated in a deep cove between Crantock and Holywell Bay, is well worth the trek!

Much of Crantock is National Trust owned, and its headland is recognised as a Site of Special Interest due to the wild flowers and rare plants that grow there. There are some excellent walks via the South West Coast Path, where you have the choice of walking along the headland, climbing over the sand dunes, or strolling along the estuary. The village itself boasts a summer tea room, art gallery, gift shop, well-stocked village shop, three pubs and a church, plus, as you might expect, an excellent choice of self-catering accommodation.
