Dive into another world

If you’re planning a trip to Cornwall next year, be sure to make diving on the Cornish coast one of your 2018 to-dos.

When we holiday abroad, many of us seek diving schools as a means of discovering what’s hidden beneath the waves of foreign shores, and yet many seem to forget that Cornwall harbours a paradise of underwater sightseeing, including a rich and diverse array of wildlife.

“… an unforgettable encounter is guaranteed…”

In recent years, there’s been a definite upsurge in the number of staycations taken by Brits and, being (at least in our opinion) the most beautiful part of the kingdom, Cornwall sees thousands upon thousands of visitors every year. What many don’t seem to realise as they explore the reaches of the Lizard peninsula and look longingly down at the opalescent waters of the south coast is how easy it can be to leave the locks of land and explore Cornwall’s magical waters. Kennack Diving, based in Sea Acres Holiday Park overlooking Kennack Bay, has everything you need.

The business is owned and run by David Roberts and Des Glover. David is a Master Instructor and Des is a Master Scuba Diver Trainer. Between them, these two Cornish divers have more than 40 years’ experience, and have completed more than 8,000 dives!

Kennack Diving offers a full range of PADI courses for divers of all levels, from Bubblemaker and Open Water courses to those required to reach the professional ranks of diving. They can also take you through specialist dive qualifications as well as training in first aid, oxygen administration and rescue.

Even if one of your little ones fancies taking the plunge, provided they’re over eight years old, they can take a Discover SCUBA trial in Sea Acres Holiday Park’s heated swimming pool. In fact, anybody between the ages of eight and 80 can give this a go, and it’s a fantastic way to gauge how you get on with wearing SCUBA gear.

Anyone over the age of 12 can then follow up with a trial dive in the sea, where an unforgettable encounter is guaranteed with the local marine life that inhabits our warm, Gulf Stream-fed Cornish waters.

David and Des can also take you on bespoke dives, a very popular option due to the pair’s intimate knowledge of the local waters. Indeed, their combined love for photography and the environment really helps bring these tours to life, and you’re guaranteed to see the best of every stretch of water in their company. In fact, at the right time of year, you could even find yourself diving with dolphins, basking sharks and seals, something you’ll certainly want to brag about when you get home from your Cornish break!

So, if you’re tired of being land-locked and want to splash into another world, you needn’t travel half the way around the globe to do so. Simply head to Kennack Diving on the Lizard peninsula and prepare to be astonished. To see all the latest photos and news from David and Des, head to the Kennack Diving Facebook page.
