Dolor Cottage

A character cottage with charming period features, set in the heart of a quintessentially Cornish fishing village.

Coverack is a hidden gem nestled into a hillside on the southern edge of the Lizard Peninsula. The village has a thriving community with excellent amenities including a shop, pub and numerous cafés and still boasts a working harbour with the local fishing fleet landing their catch daily on the quay. The main beach exposes a swathe of golden sand at low tide and the South West Coast Path winds through the village. Stumble upon the nearby Meers Beach, or the Terence Coventry’s Sculpture Garden which you’ll find at the top of the village, making this a coastal idyll like no other.

From the exterior, Dolor Cottage has all the attributes of a typically Cornish fisherman’s cottage, with whitewashed cob walls and a low door, but step over the threshold and you’ll find a deceptively spacious interior that has been sympathetically renovated to preserve original exposed beams and a vast inglenook fireplace. Flagstone floors complement the  simple colour palette of the interior decor which has been kept deliberately minimal to create a feeling of space. Indeed, the farmhouse-style kitchen is much larger than you would expect to find in a traditional Cornish cottage, with ample space for a six-seat dining table, perfect for enjoying a fish supper with a glass of something cold.

Wind up the open-tread staircase to the first floor and you’ll find a spacious master bedroom with en-suite shower room, along with two equally good-sized guest rooms that share a family bathroom. Outside, the compact yet bijoux rear seating area benefits from sea views. Many a sunny morning or balmy evening can be spent here watching the to-ings and fro-ings of the harbour below.

Dolor Cottage comes with both a private parking space and a good-sized garage which are enviable additions in any Cornish village. The property has been run as a successful holiday home in recent years but would equally make a wonderful family bolt hole from which to enojy both Coverack and the wider Lizard Peninsula, all while creating a multitude of happy memories.
