Exploring The Future

We engage with GreenGenUk to find out more about the benefits to be had from installing an air-source heat pump.

Thanks to increased incentives, air-source heat pumps are becoming a popular choice for reducing energy bills and cutting carbon emissions, so we caught up with Sophia, one of GreenGenUK’s Renewable Sales Specialists, to find out why they’re the perfect addition to homes in Cornwall.

How much space does an air source heat pump need?

You typically need one to two square metres of outdoor space. The key is ensuring the unit has good airflow and isn’t obstructed. With proper placement, they operate efficiently without taking up much room.

Are air source heat pumps efficient – even in freezing temperatures?

Heat pumps can extract warmth from the air, even when temperatures drop below freezing. For every unit of electricity they use, they typically generate three to four+ units of heat. This makes them incredibly cost-effective over time, helping to significantly lower
energy bills.

Combining solar PV and battery storage is ideal for maximising efficiency. Solar panels generate renewable energy to power your heat pump, and a battery stores surplus electricity to use when the sun isn’t shining. It’s a fantastic way to reduce running costs and make your home even greener.

Are they noisy?

Most units produce around 40 to 50 decibels, which is comparable to the hum of a fridge or a quiet conversation, with proper installation, they are placed in areas where noise won’t cause any disruption.

Can older homes benefit from air-source heat pumps?

Older properties can benefit from heat pumps, but efficiency depends on proper design and installation. While poorly insulated homes may need upgrades, a well-planned system can still provide effective heating. At GreenGenUK, we offer tailored assessments to maximise performance.

What about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

This government incentive provides a £7,500 grant for installing an air source heat pump. It’s a fantastic way to reduce upfront costs. At GreenGenUK, we guide homeowners through the process to make it as simple as possible.

Switching to renewable heating has never been easier. With GreenGenUK’s expert guidance and tailored solutions, you can transform your home into an energy-efficient, low-carbon haven. Whether you’re interested in a standalone heat pump or a complete solution with Solar PV and Battery Storage, their team is ready to help.
