For Lyn, a passionate young artist, painting was the dream she made into a business reality. Ambitious, with a passion for coast, florals and animals, she has lovingly grown Whistlefish since 1997 to become one of Cornwall’s most well-loved card and art brands, now with 11 shops in the south west.

After opening her first shop in St Ives, Lyn found that it was hard to keep up with demand and keep the shop well stocked, so she started seeking out other local artists to print their work. This was a huge success and allowed Whistlefish to begin to flourish into the company it is today, providing a platform to many up-and-coming UK artists. With so many talented names in the Whistlefish collection, we discovered some of the team’s favourite artists whose popularity is reflected both in store and online.

Iris Clelford

With a love for oils, Iris’s paintings are full of vibrancy, depth, and light with subjects that sit easy on the eye. Based in Cornwall, the coastline and florals feature heavily in her collection – beautiful moments of colour to hang in your home.

Hannah Cole

Brighton-based artist Hannah is inspired by her frequent travels to the West Country, as well as the everyday seaside walks around Brighton and beyond. Her paintings depict the charm of Cornish harbours and bring back happy memories of beachside holidays, with her ever-present wistful dog gazing out to sea.

Simon Harmer

A creative illustrator, Simon is a master of hand-drawn, linear images in an almost continuous line, giving a fluid, organic style. A modern home will be well suited to one of these pieces, with the minimal style brought to life with a single splash of colour.

The Whistlefish Studio

The talented in-studio artists at Whistlefish live and breathe life by the sea, and that’s reflected in the variety of location-based art, each with its own style. This season, some of the team’s favourites include the bold ‘South West Lino’ and summery ‘Dream Views’ collections.

Each piece of art is printed and framed by hand in Whistlefish’s studio in Cornwall, guaranteeing quality, longevity and stunning reproduction.
