Festive forays 2019

Some fun, festive ideas to get you and yours out and about this Christmas.

Whether you’re hoping to combine Christmas shopping with a family day out, or are looking to tire the little ones out so you can enjoy a quiet evening in front of the fire with a mince pie and a bottle of your favourite wine, here are some great ideas to get you and yours out and about in Cornwall over the coming Christmas holidays.

Festive and fancy

Raze the Roof

Looking for a way to keep the kids entertained this Christmas? Taking place on Saturday 21st December at Raze the Roof in Penryn – the family favourite indoor activities centre – is the team’s Children’s Fancy Dress Party. As well as prizes for ‘best dressed’, kids can enjoy the disco, party games, the ‘wrap-your-parents’ challenge; they’ll even get a free present when they visit Santa in his grotto. From 6pm until 9pm, this is not an event you and your little ones will want to miss. Entry costs £9.50 per child and includes berry juice and yule log!

Can you save Christmas?

Bedruthan Hotel

Did you hear? Father Christmas has had to make an emergency landing at Bedruthan Hotel, and with pieces of his sleigh now scattered all around, he needs your help to fix it and save Christmas! Meet the friendly elves and reindeer in Tummetott village, decorate your own wooden Christmas decorations to hang at home, visit the Ice Queen in her snow cavern, then wind your way through the frozen forest to find Father Christmas in his Sugar and Spice Grotto and help him fix his sleigh. Phew, that’s Christmas saved!

A winter wonderland

Newquay Garden Centre

On Saturdays and Sundays from 30th November until 22nd December, the Newquay Garden Centre team will be hosting a Santa’s Grotto and Mischievous Elves Workshops. As well as receiving a free gift, kids can get stuck into some arts and crafts with the centre’s team of elves and hear tales from Mrs Claus about her husband’s adventures, before meeting the man himself! Then, on Saturdays and Sundays from 30th November to 21st December, kids and adults alike will have the chance to join Santa for breakfast! Check the website for more details.

All aboard!

Bodmin and Wenford Railway

Take a journey with the railway elves to visit Santa’s grotto! Arrive at Bodmin General for seasonal drinks, carols on the platform and, of course, mince pies, before climbing aboard for an hour-long trip on Bodmin and Wenford’s beautiful steam train. Families will get to visit Santa in his on-board grotto, with plenty of time for a photo, plus gifts for each child. A great day out for the whole family, be sure to pencil Santa by Steam into your Christmas diary!

Santa Claus is coming to…

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

At Heligan this December you and your little ones can meet Father Christmas and his elves in the cosy setting of the Head Gardener’s Office, where each child will also receive a small gift. To make the most of your trip, be sure to wrap up warm and explore the Festive Trail through the gardens, before writing your letters to Father Christmas and making crafts by the fire.
