April Watson from The Carpet Trader talks trends for the year ahead.

More and more homeowners want flooring materials that are imaginative and unique in design and texture. With this in mind, we catch up with April Watson from The Carpet Trader Cornwall, who takes a look at some of the exciting new trends in flooring for the year ahead.

Firstly, in terms of patterns, April explains how we are seeing an increase of chevron or herringbone pattern designs in kitchens, bathrooms and living areas. For those searching for stand-out flooring to complete their new interior, she reveals:

“Chevron and herringbone floor patterns are a great way to add an accent to your kitchen, dining room or hall.”

Next, April talks vintage, something that’s always been about nostalgia – bringing back the warmth and memories of decades past. In 2020, bold, graphic and luxurious vinyl flooring offers homeowners a unique twist to the vintage floor style. “The world of vinyl has changed,” April elaborates. “Manufacturers are stepping up and creating more realistic and cooler vinyl floors than ever before; vinyl has actually become fashionable!”

If you, like many, like to keep your home feeling natural with simple interior schemes, then this is your year! April tells us that this is a fundamental trend for 2020; with an increasing focus on sustainability and ways to ‘bring the outdoors in’, April tells us: “The trend of natural colours and natural flooring will stay for some time, with many manufacturers supplying luxurious undyed wool carpets that feature beautiful texture and design.”

Last but not least, April delves into the world of carpet. With its cosy, plush underfoot feeling that no other floor can rival, it seems that carpet is making a resurgence, and in a very stylish way indeed! Just like fashion in Milan, carpet is now an expression of creativity in bold and innovative and style. “In turbulent times,” April continues, “manufacturers are focusing on colours that offer comfort, and rich jewel toned luxurious carpets are a key trend for this year.”

With so many new interior trends and products that offer durability and sustainability, however you’d like to floor your home, the innovative flooring showroom at The Carpet Trader in Wadebridge has it all. Not only that, April and the team know everything there is to know about all things flooring, so if you’re updating your home, be sure to pay them a visit!
