Overlooking Polzeath beach, The Cracking Crab is a seaside restaurant with the best view of the surf, serving everything from light bites to seafood platters and all the bits in between. Open for lunch, dinner, teas, coffees, and plenty of ice cream throughout the week, The Cracking Crab is a family friendly and family run restaurant – the sister to The Winking Prawn in Salcombe.

Wander inside and enjoy the eclectic interiors, featuring local artwork and a combination of cosy booths and tables – perfect for groups of friends, families, and couples, whether you’re popping in for a quick cup of tea and a brownie (or two) or celebrating a special occasion over dinner.

As the name might suggest, the menu focuses largely on seafood, drawing on the wonderful local produce that the team are lucky to have close by. However, they also try to provide something for everyone. So, if a fish feast isn’t quite your vibe they also serve juicy West Country steaks off the grill and the bar is always fully stocked with chilled craft beers, ciders and wine – including their very own bespoke cider, created in partnership with a local brewery. Classic foodie favourites include Fruits de Mer and Popcorn Shrimp in the best of Cornish surf style.

They have a small selection of gluten-free and vegetarian options available too, and while the size of the kitchen makes it hard for them to stray too far from the menu, the team will do everything they can to adapt a chosen dish if needed. New this season in the garden, the original american air stream will be offering  small, informal, no-fuss seafood street food to have in the garden or to take away.

In short, The Cracking Crab can be whatever you want it to be; fun for the whole family (including the dog), a hotspot for a leisurely lunch watching the surf, a resting place for a cup of tea after a walk along the coast path, or an awesome place to watch the sun setting over sundowners before supper.
