Got to Experience

A trip to Penwith Gallery

This dynamic and ever-changing contemporary art space lies at the heart of St Ives and has served as a cultural institution for artists and art lovers since opening its doors in 1961. The gallery is home to the Penwith Society of Arts – founded by such luminaries as Dame Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson – who exhibit year-round in the Members gallery, alongside two additional exhibition spaces showcasing works by some of the world’s best contemporary artists. Open 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, with free admission, all pieces on display are for sale and the gallery offers the popular OwnArt scheme, ensuring there is something for everybody’s budget. The complex also includes a shop selling work by up-and-coming Cornish makers, an archive and 11 artists’ studios including the Porthmeor Print Workshop.
