Gourmet gossip May 2019

We catch up with all the latest news from some of our favourite chefs, eateries, hotels and pubs.

Discover delightful dining at Sands Resort

Situated atop the cliffs overlooking the vivid blue waters and crashing surf of the Atlantic ocean, Sands Resort Hotel and Spa has it all. The hotel is in prime position to enjoy everything that Newquay has to offer from surf lessons and long coastal walks to a refreshing glass of wine enjoyed al fresco. The hotel’s Beachcomber Restaurant boasts amazing sea views ideal for lunch and dinner and on Sundays (outside of school holidays) families having lunch at Sands can also use the indoor and outdoor play areas at no extra charge. Also (unsurprisingly) popular are the Twilight Sessions on Friday and Saturday evenings, where guests can enjoy a 90-minute Moroccan Spa Experience and a glass of Cava followed by a two-course dinner at the restaurant for just £39 per person.

Enjoy a proper pub lunch at the Lemon Arms

The Lemon Arms in Mylor is the perfect place to put your feet up and enjoy a pub lunch this spring. Here at Cornwall Living, we love taking a leisurely walk around the creek and a race around the park before a hearty meal at the Lemon Arms. The cosy interior and friendly staff promotes a welcoming atmosphere that’s hard to leave – especially after a few pints of Tribute. But it’s the food that really stands out and with pub classics served alongside coastal specials such as fresh scallop and crab claw paella, you know you’ll leave feeling full and satisfied. If the sun’s out, head outside and enjoy your favourite tipple in the beer garden – this sheltered spot is the perfect sun trap with beautiful potted plants and spacious benches, meaning you could easily spend the whole afternoon lounging at the Lemon Arms.

Experience true love for food at Rastella

We at Cornwall Living love food – who doesn’t these days? At Falmouth’s only 3 AA Rosette restaurant, Merchants Manor’s Rastella, it’s all about authentic local produce served in interesting or traditional ways and absolutely packed with flavour.

From the team’s nature-inspired modern approach to dinner, to their locally grass-reared beef burgers smothered in homemade barbeque sauce, everything is put together with thought and pure enjoyment in mind, with flavours bound to leave you wanting more.

The kitchen team pays close attention to provenance, locality, seasonality and sustainability, so you don’t have to, meaning you’ll find a vast array of food and drink that ticks all the boxes, and not because they have to, but because we should all want to.

Wadebridge Wines, a merchant like no other

Family owned and run by a small group of experienced, jolly people, Wadebridge Wines feel privileged to serve beautiful Cornwall through their retail premises in Wadebridge and to be wholesaling throughout the county with quirky spirits, decadent fizz and inspiring wines.

To demystify and find fun is what they do, but always with an exemplary depth of knowledge. Indeed, their offering is both impressive and extensive, aiming to gently educate and make their wines more intriguing, opening up customers to a world of wonderful taste experiences. For instance, recent interest in Portuguese wine is resulting in greater awareness of this proud country, with its indigenous grapes’ distinctive personality offering enormous value.

You’ll also find a range of speciality spirits and craft beers, with regular tasting and promotional events taking place throughout the year, hosted by a team that’s always on the lookout for the best.
