Treat yourself at Teacup Tearoom

It’s the season for long winter walks along empty beaches and there’s no better way to end your walk than heading to the warm and welcoming environment of Teacup Tearoom in Mevagissey. The gorgeous selection of homemade scones, locally made cakes and wide variety of teas are sure to warm you up after your excursions. Plus, the Teacup couldn’t be more dog friendly and is just as welcoming to its canine customers as it is to us humans. And if you want to give the gift of a Teacup experience to a loved one this Christmas, why not treat them to a gift voucher so they can enjoy the delights of Teacup Tearoom too? Enjoy Waterside’s delicious winter menu

The Cornish food and drink scene is buzzing, with the restaurants of Britain and beyond now fully switched on to the sort of high quality produce that our county excels in. And at Waterside – a stunning resort nestled in rolling countryside just outside Bodmin – they’re taking full advantage of the boom in local goodness to create something truly special on a daily basis. At Waterside’s own restaurant, Three Lakes, the chefs work hard with the best of the seasons’ produce and as those seasons roll towards Christmas, they’ve been developing and testing a menu designed to thrill visitors and locals alike. Waterside’s Director Ian Slater tells us: “We’re lucky enough to be in an area which is rich in stunning food, so it’s only right that we use the best of what’s on our doorstep.”

The Christmas menu offers traditional staples done perfectly, Ian continues: “We’re a family orientated place so when we see the kids’ faces light up at the decorations, and their parents’ faces do the same when the food comes out, we know we’re doing something right.” With food this good and surroundings so beautiful to enjoy it in, it’s no wonder Waterside is so popular. “We’ve been taking bookings since July,” says Ian, “but we’re offering lunch and dinner all through December, along with our festive party evenings every Friday and Saturday night.” It looks like Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year at Waterside.

Creekside Christmas at the Lemon Arms, Mylor

The temperatures have now well and truly dropped, but that’s no reason not to go outside and enjoy the fresh sea air. If anything, at this time of year it’s even more revitalising!

The Lemon Arms in Mylor is the perfect stop during your winter walk, with a roaring fire, hearty menu full of local produce and a well-stocked bar featuring a wealth of favourite Cornish tipples from St Austell Brewery.

What’s more, to celebrate the festive season, the team will be putting on a three-course Christmas menu with a number of seasonal favourites, and owner Jonny tells us there will be a number of other festive events taking place, so be sure to keep an eye out and pop along to warm your cockles after a blustery creekside stroll in Mylor.

Country house style in the heart of Cornwall

Leave the world behind this winter, getaway and relax in style at the Rose in Vale Country House Hotel. Situated in a lush, peaceful valley in Mithian, and within easy access of the A30, this historic hotel was the home of mining captains and oozes ‘Poldark’ charm. The relaxing house feel means that, the moment you step over the threshold, you’ll be enveloped in an oasis of calm.

You’re guaranteed a warm welcome, whether you’re staying, dining or both. Cosy lounges, set around the fireplace, offer huge sofas that you can sink into and are the perfect place to relax with friends, family and older children – this is an adult retreat, although over 12s are welcomed along with well-behaved, four-legged friends.

Accommodation comes in the form of a range of rooms and suites, and no two are the same. Each is individually designed to its own distinct character, and all are fitted out with everything you could want for a comfortable stay.

There’s nothing nicer that getting ensconced by the fire pre-dinner, ordering a delicious cocktail to sip on, and challenging each other to a board game – sometimes you can’t beat a bit of old fashioned entertainment to calm the soul.

The 2AA Rosette Awarded restaurant here is private, intimate and unrushed and the main ingredients for all of the dishes are locally sourced from Cornwall’s abundant larder.

The team’s Sunday lunches, for instance, take some beating, and what could be better as the temperatures start to drop than a breezy Sunday stroll before a cooked lunch with all the trimmings?

The restaurant is available for large bookings – ideal if you’ve yet to plan your Christmas party. The team open from Thursday to Sunday during November and December and then, during the Christmas holidays, you can pay a visit anytime as they are open every day.

Cheese on Coast – St Ives’ premier cheesemonger!

With the sole aim of promoting delicious artisan cheeses produced using recipes that, in some cases, date back centuries, Cheese on Coast has a fantastic range on offer, including a number of Cornish cheeses. Owners Nick and Claire strive to provide small-batch farmhouse cheeses sold at the optimum ‘ripeness’, for full enjoyment. Complementing the cheese is a wide range
of crackers (including gluten free), chutneys, and relishes, along with a selection of ambient Cornish charcuterie, rillettes
and pates, including vegetarian and
vegan varieties!

As if all that wasn’t enough, there’s an exciting range of cheese-based traditional and vegetarian scotch eggs – a real treat – not to mention a menu of fresh filled rolls and flatbreads to take away.

And, for the perfect gift this Christmas, there’s a fantastic range of cheese-related gifts and homewares upstairs, including cheese boards, knives, cheese making kits and fondue sets, ideal for any cheese lover!

Yuletide dining at Penrose Kitchen

Available from 1st until 23rd December, Penrose Kitchen’s festive lunch and dinner menu promises to tantalise the taste buds and leave you in a state of food-induced bliss. With two courses for £20 and three courses for £25, it’s definitely worth indulging in a decadent meal! And here at Cornwall Living, we absolutely love the sound of the classic turkey main served with Primrose herd streaky bacon, chestnut stuffing, duck fat roast potatoes and turkey gravy, it sounds utterly mouth-watering and exactly what you need on a cold autumnal day. Couple this with the Penrose Kitchen signature sticky toffee Christmas pudding and brandy cream sauce, or the Cornish cheese board, and you’ll be in festive foodie heaven. Then top it all off with a glass of mulled wine by the fire with one of Ben’s homemade mince pies – the perfect end to a perfect meal.

We hear from owners Ben and Sam who tell us: “Whether you’re celebrating with colleagues for a work get together or catching up with friends and family before the ‘big day’ you’ll be enthralled by the magical atmosphere of Yuletide here at Penrose Kitchen.” At dusk the courtyard lights up alluringly and the tranquil ambiance of the surrounding lily ponds is even more noticeable as evening falls, creating a peaceful atmosphere within which to enjoy your food.
